Quick Throw: Fox dumps Cohen

Fox Football Fone-In, currently on hiatus for the summer, will return on August 10 with one new host.  No longer will Steven Cohen be allowed to use FSC airwaves to yearly berate Liverpool fans over Hillsborough.  Instead, Eric Wynalda will bring the crazy every week with returning co-host Nick Webster.  I still will not be able to watch for more than 10 minutes.

In the comments, tell me which teams Wynalda is going to adopt as a foil to Webster.

    The San Jose Clash.

    The terrorists have won!

May God have mercy on our souls.

    So the real question:

    Mute button vs. Max Bretos
    Mute button vs. Eric Wynalda

    Who ya got?

  4. @Nathaniel: Or is it Mute Button vs. FSC (when EPL matches are not airing)? Although I’d throw my mute button in the trash if Terry Leigh was on all the time! It’s a nice!

  5. Who else read Eric Wynalda’s facebook profile after the US loss to Brazil at the Confed Cup? I hope they feed him a mandatory 7 Stellas and 5 Heinekens before every telecast.

I am delighted that Cohen is gone but seriously.. Come on, get a proper host….And why is Webster coming back? FSC has no intention of taking soccer seriously.

I don’t care as much about Wynalda as I do the prospect of the CL on Fox. If given a choice between having to listen to Christopher Sullivan/Keith Costigan while watching Champions League and listening to Michael Bolton’s greatest hits with the TV on mute, it is going to be Michael Botlon every time.

    Yawn. How about Terri Leigh?

Todd Grisham (one of the commentators for fsc) also presents on WWE Smackdown. Honestly.

how would you know that, anonymous?

the fsc guys are bad. the goltv guys are equally as bad. andres cantor is annoying. I’m sure if you asked brits, they would find their announcers annoying. Rare is the commentator, for any sport, that is enjoyable, knowledgeable and you enjoy listening to them. I can’t think of any off the top of my head (harry carey of course) although I’m sure everyone is partial to their local baseball radio broadcaster (spent a fair few years in St.Louis and enjoyed Jack Buck. His son was good on local tv, but is now a horrible putz).

Whizalen brings up a good point. Who would we find acceptable? I generally think that it’s somewhat insulting that FSC has to bring in random Brits to talk about soccer but this might just reflect a lack of knowledgeable Americans (at least those who are capable of being on the teevee.) I can’t honestly think of any Americans who I would enjoy on FFF.

My thoughts on Wynalda’s adopted team?

I’m sure Eric will be pulling for the club that he played for in England either “Mid-uls-burrow”, “Ful-ham”, “Burm-ing-ham” or “Ports-mowth”

    I KEEEEED!!!

And oh by the way, Steven probably doesn’t want to be on your stupid show anyway… he’s hooked his wagon to satellite radio. So there!

  14. ebullientfatalist

    Wynalda will support SFB.

Am I the only one who finds Wynalda to be delightful? Given, he’s no more than a mildly offensive version of John Harkes, but that a step in the right direction, yes?

@hockalees – my money was actually on lie-chester.
