2009, Year Of The Thug Flick

Back in April I told you about the release in England of ‘Away Days’ based on the excellent Kevin Sampson book, well another tale of football thuggery is hitting the screens in September and this one is based on the 1999 TV film ‘The Firm’ staring Gary Oldman. The original was very good indeed, dealing with football hooliganism during the Thatcher years. The (original) Firm was directed by the late and great Alan Clarke, who also directed ‘Made in Britain’ and ‘Scum’. Did we really need a remake? Probably not as it will certainly not be better than it’s predecessor, but lets have a look anyway…

The Firm 2009 is directed by Nick Love who has visited this territory before with The Football Factory which was quite frankly, easy to describe in one word…Shit.

I definitely own The Football Factory, such a trashy hilariously bad movie.

And I’m contractually obligated to see any movie with Jackie Tyler in it.

Agreed, The Football Factory is awesomely bad. This makes me want to see the original version of The Firm, is it available anywhere?

I can tell you this much: if you do a torrent search for “The Firm” you will get a BUNCH of porno with the words “firm hand” in the title.

Much appreciated. I’ll add that to my list of movies to get, looks excellent.

And Georger… I discovered that myself. Didn’t think to look to Amazon for it. I’m an idiot.

I’m the only one who liked The Football Factory, I guess. My bar mates and I enjoy quoting extensively from Billy’s various lines in the film.

As for The Firm, it’s on Demonoid.

The hair was much bigger and the clothes were less loud. The Firm with Gary Oldman is very good. And he’s West Ham in it. Anyone know about this one?
