Quick Throw: US Roster for Qualifier v. Mexico Set

Bob Bradley has named the 20-man roster for next Wednesday’s World Cup Qualifier against Mexico. Full squad after the jump.

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton).

Defenders: Carlos Bocanegra (Stade Rennais), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Steve Cherundolo (Hanover 96), Jay DeMerit (Watford), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Oguchi Onyewu (AC Milan), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United).

Midfielders: Michael Bradley (Borussia Moenchengladbach), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Jose Francisco Torres (Pachuca).

Forwards: Jozy Altidore (Villarreal), Conor Casey (Colorado Rapids), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Charlie Davies (Sochaux), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy).

Sorry Dynamo fans, looks like your squad will be wrecked for another round of MLS matches.

  1. so what do we think, are these the likely WC squad members?

Still want Kenny Cooper over Conor Casey. Maybe Cooper’s move to Europe will give the cause a boost (assuming he plays and plays well).

  3. I would definitely rather have Cooper than Casey, and Robbie Rogers over Ricardo Clark.

  4. Nathaniel

Just got my UF shirt in the mail.

Now I can masturbate a little less gloomily.

Agreed, I prefer Cooper to Casey (although I do like Casey more than some here, I think) and definitely would rather see Rogers than Clark. I wish I trusted our manager to pick a better roster than I would, but so long as Bradley is around, I don’t trust him to do much of anything.

With the exclusion of Beasley and Sascha, I’m too overjoyed to complain about any other possible snubs.

I’m okay with Kljestan. I know you were all wondering where I stood on that.

I’m not upset, but is anyone else slightly suprised to see Adu left off? I mean, I don’t think anyone expects to see both Casey and Ching in this match.
Besides that, I’m happy with the lineup except Marshall maybe.

  9. Adu should take note of his exclusion. He has a long road to be included in the 2010 WC squad. He will need to get some playing time.

  10. Steve

yay no Beasley. hopefully this means the end of the road for him internationally. rest of the lineup looks decent enough.

I would have thought Ching had played his way off the squad by now.

But I guess every squad needs a uninterested layabout on the bench.

I’m not surprised at all at Adu’s exclusion. He hasn’t gotten any playing time anywhere during his club career (even at DC, he wasn’t the first name on the sheet). It’s not like he’s Matthew F**king Le Tissier.

Like some others, I would have preferred Robbie Rogers get another look, though at the expense of Casey, not Clark. Should Clark ever learn how not to take the stupid red, he will be good to great for the US.
