It’s Monday So Something Must Have Happened In South America

Ah, Newell’s Old Boys and Penarol, thank you for obliging.

The Argentines and the Uruguayans hooked up for a friendly over the weekend that was anything but.

The match had to be abandoned after about 40 minutes because of a players’ brawl. The incident which started it is at the top of the video (sorry about the ads, but flvs are too difficult to edit this early in the am). Things look like they might get all L.A. circa 1992, but they end up being mostly handbaggy.

Still, no second-half for the fans, who probably didn’t even deserve a first half as it was reported that the Uruguayan home supporters were throwing firecrackers (and we’re going to assume lit ones) at the NOB players during warm ups.

Would never have happened to Smeaton.

Long-haired Blondie went down really quickly with that first slapunch to the face. Way to be the opposite of an athlete.

“Handbaggy” is a new favorite term of mine, so thank you. Are there other uses?

Yeah, Nacional is better than Penarol. Bunch of thugs!
