Duff’s Geordie Parting Shot

Newcastle Sucks! Duff glad to be out of toon.

Newcastle Sucks! Duff glad to be out of toon.

Damien Duff, now at Fulham, has spoken of his delight at escaping his 3 year Geordie nightmare. The Republic of Ireland winger has slammed his former club’s behind the scenes instabillty from the safety of his new South London digs…

“I played under four managers last season. I don’t think that’s a good base for any set of players to work well but that’s no excuse, we went down and deserved to go down. There’s a lot of stability here, not only with managers but also the starting XI.  It was the hardest period of my career. I didn’t really enjoy my football and obviously it didn’t work out. But you have to move on, call it a day at some stage. I’ve done that. It was definitely tough times. I gave my all and it just didn’t work.

Duff has joined up with former Blackburn Rovers manager Roy Hodgson at Fulham and had some high praise for the Fulham gaffer…

“He’s top-notch, as you see from his time here at Fulham. I don’t know how close he’s ever got to being England manager, but it’s always shocked me he hasn’t really got a mention. And he’s worked with some of the top players and clubs around the world, so that speaks volumes.”

Easy to criticize your former employers when you are 300 miles away eh? Still I should imagine he is bang on, Newcastle have been an absolute mess over the last couple of years. They seem to be getting their act together on the pitch this season though, the Geordies are currently sitting third in the championship on 7 points from their first possible 9 after 2 fine wins in the last week.

    I hope he isn’t sizing up Dempsey’s left-side midfield spot…

Yeah, Thats his now. Dempsey will likely push behind a forward like for the national team.

I think NN is right. Dempsey will play in the hole behind the striker.

  4. hadley

Unless Duff has much more left than he showed in the last few years, I reckon Depsey could/will win that spot back.

Didn’t Dempsey just resign a new fat deal with Fulham? I see him playing, regardless of position.

  6. corky

Dempsey will go back to the right with Gera to the bench and Davies injured.

Gera is my girlfriend’s favorite player. I get random texts going “GEEEEEEEEEERAAAA.”
