You know we’re verging on being a legitimate soccer nation when our soccer violence crosses into full-on wrongness. And it has.
Twenty-year-old Efrain Flores allegedly punched a 13-year-old player at a youth soccer match in Venura County, CA. The police are quoted in the video as saying the boy was beaten “pretty severely” but only list a possible broken nose as the extent of the injuries.
Then there was an additional “rumble” at an adult match on Sunday. A pregnant woman apparently was so distraught that she had to be taken to a hospital.
Both fights were from a private league and police are looking into revoking the league’s permit. Yes, banning soccer totally stops dickheads from beating each other up. Even better, the police are also requesting compensation for their services, which, if we’re understanding that correctly, means they want to be paid for doing their jobs. Guess their salaries aren’t enough.
A grown man beating up a boy is inexcusable. But that dude is in jail and facing charges of child endangerment and abuse, in addition to disturbing the peace. He’s also staring at a $25,000 bond. But for local authorities to blame soccer then ask to be paid for, well, police work, is even dumber.
Sorry there’s no actual footage of the fight in the video. Just police and newsreaders being sensationalist and overreacting.

I wonder if that police tape graphic is supposed to be upside down?
I was kind of hoping Josh McCain would just say something like ‘what the f**k am I supposed to do?’, but he handled himself pretty well for looking as if he spends the whole day lit.
USA! USA! USA!

I actually applaud this. There is a certain element of society that uses the police to resolve every dispute, no matter how petty. If a bunch of f**ktards can’t control themselves at a U14 soccer game then start arresting idiots and send them the bill.
hockalees: I can see the sense behind that, but that slope gets slippery really quickly.
Sure I leave SoCal and Reffing there for two weeks and look what happens. It’s typical, I never get a break *grumble*
