City sign Serbian young gun Danijel Aleksic for 6m pounds. I’ll give you 3 guesses as to what position he plays. (Hint: It sure isn’t defense)
Apparently there were nails and shards of glass on the brown side of that turf at Rotherham as well – at least according to Rochdale’s manager and assistant manager.
Whether or not it was responsible of them to play the match despite those potential hazards is up for debate though.
Alexi Lalas is unbearably long winded. Holy crap.
I agree Steve. The interview was very interesting, but lordy is Lalas a dullard sometimes and completely wrong to boot. The part about how Messi is a “dying breed” is just so plain off the mark. Certainly forwards tend to be tall and physical, but I can think of a ton of Iverson-esque midfielders who thrive at the moment (Modric, Arshavin, hell even Landycakes). On the other hand, I realized that Lalas grew up in my hometown in Michigan, which does actually explain a lot.
You do realize that Iverson is 6 foot tall, right? it’s not like he’s 5′6″. He’s a whole 1 inch shorter than Fernando Torres.
Nah, it’s pretty much agreed that he’s 5′10″ or 5′11″ at most. NBA players are always exaggerating heights.
Having said that: 1) he can dunk, so obviously he’d be fine in the air and 2) Lalas is still totally wrong. Seeing Jason Kidd play at the Showdown in Chinatown last year, I completely agree with Simmons that the same things that make an NBA point guard great would translate to the football pitch.
wow i knew freddy’s situation was bad (never getting pt, always being loaned out hinting benfica have no place for him and dont want him, not playing a competitive game in europe for almost 2 years) but DAMN. homeboy really is in some really deep shit here. he wont be able to get the loan deal done in the next week and he’ll be stuck playing for benfica’s reserves for a year (a world cup tear no less) and noone wants him. truly sad story. the kid peaked at the u-20 world cup in ‘07 and now he really could be staring down the pipe of his career being over at 20
Damn. Poor Freddy. I’d like to see some MLS side come in for him, just so he can play.
Would it be possible for Benfica just to cut Freddy, and then leave him as a free agent to sign with any club?
Anyone happen to have video of Jozy’s goal? Not having any luck on youtube.
I’d just like to say that I’m disgusted by the scenes at Upton Park yesterday. Some will say it was bound to happen, but I tend to disagree. The passion is there in matches with Spurs and Chelsea, but not the violence. And not the pitch invasions, which to me is much more serious. Could you imagine if someone had attacked a Millwall player yesterday? I couldn’t help but think that as fans came onto the pitch.
I would imagine we will be playing some matches behind closed doors and paying a hefty fine. We deserve it.
The club’s official statement:
West Ham United will fully investigate the deplorable scenes that took place during the Carling Cup tie with Millwall on Tuesday evening.
The club will not tolerate the unacceptable behaviour witnessed inside the Boleyn Ground and will take the strongest possible action against anyone found responsible, including life bans.
As was the case before, during and after the match, we are cooperating fully with the relevant agencies, including the police.
