Leo Beensackked-er

Beensacked.

Leo Beensacked. Testing 1, 2,3, Paging all small national teams who fancy making a major tournament.

Dutch silver mullet fiend, Leo Beenhakker, has  been sacked from his position as Poland coach. The bullet came right after Slovenia stuffed the Poles 3 zip to leave their chances of a trip to next summers World Cup reliant on other results and 2 unlikely victories. Slovenia play San Marino next and anything but a win by the ‘big club’  (that brings tears of laughter every time I hear it) will eliminate Poland. The ‘big club’ (Ooooooooooooooo hahahahahahaha, hahahahaha, hoooooooooooooo…/wiping tears) have lost all 9 of their qualifiers so far and Poland will now surely turn all of their focus back to the Eurovision song contest

Beenhakker was appointed coach of Poland in 2006, becoming the first non-Pole to manage the national team. He promptly set them on the right track and took the Poles to the European Championships in 2008 for the first time EVER.  After wards he was awarded with the Polonia Restituta, an award for outstanding achievement. My, my the Poles have short memories can we all collectively say “knee jerk”.

Beenhakker has managed a whopping TWENTY THREE teams since becoming a coach in 1972. At 67 years old the Dutchman’s previous managerial stints include Real Madrid, Ajax (3 times), the Dutch national team, Saudi Arabia, Feyenoord (twice) and Club America. In 2006 he took Trinidad and Tobago to the World Cup. Quite an achievement.

“I don’t want to make a rash decision but this cannot be changed. That was Leo’s last game as coach.”- Grzegorz Lato, Chief of Polish FA.

Poland’s dismissal of Beenhakker seems a little rash to me. He has proven that he can do wonders with very little and delivered qualification to a the European Championships for the first time in 2008. Poland just don’t have great players at the moment and they will certainly struggle to find an experienced coach like Beenhakker who can turn their fortunes quickly and bring success with such a squad.

Whoever the new guy is, he will be Polish for sure. Grzegorz Lato made that clear after the beat down in Slovenia. Poland won just 3 of their 8 games in qualifying.

I’m more excited for the Maradona sacking. His relapse is going to be epic.

No reason they shouldn’t have been contending for automatic qualification in that group. Good firing.

Well, Norfolk Ned, have you seen the game against Slovenia? Or the one against Northern Ireland? Sure we haven’t got a great team, we haven’t got international stars. But we have got enough players to successively compete in a group with powers like, with all due respect, Slovakia and Slovenia. The fact we could not compete with both of them means the coach did a very poor job and deserved his fait, nothing you can do about that and making a fuss about this is meaningless.

@Mi, you just don’t have the quality at the moment in my eyes. As for Slovakia, they have some super players coming through. Making a tournament (08) doesn’t always confirm you are better than the teams in your next qualifying group. The fact you got to Euro 2008 was testement to Beenhakkers coaching. Beenhakker is proven at getting underachieving sides to punch well above their weight. See T&T. While you are entitled to want a new man, who might that be?

Quite frankly I don’t see how someone who doesn’t appear to have much respect for Polish football and clearly doesn’t watch it has any means for adding their two cents to the issue. You hit some bigger notes, like Leo was the first non-Polish coach, he got them to Euro 2008, etc. I don’t see you having regular updates about the state of Polish Football. In that case, I don’t really take anything you say to heart. I see it is a chance for you to jab at a country that’s on the down side for now. I’d be shocked to ever see a report of something positive on Polish football ever appearing on your site. You can’t pick between Leo or the PZPN if you’re not going to get into the real business of what happened. Nothing against Leo, but why wasn’t he speaking out about this stuff before he got fired/quit? There’s more to this story.
