UF Special Event: The Damned United!

A football movie comes to the U.S. Get In!

A football movie comes to the U.S. Get In!

Exciting news, my blog fiends (a man dressed in a royal smock in the background is heralding this announcement with a trumpet). On the 8th of October, Unprofessional Foul will be presenting a special screening of the new SONY PICTURES CLASSICS  film The Damned United and hosting a party afterwards. Get In!

Our screening will be held in New York City at the AMC Empire on 42nd street for our special guests (invites leaving UF Towers this week), with an after party at George Keeley on the Upper West Side.

The Damned United is being released in the U.S. in October, and tells the story of legendary manager Brian Clough’s doomed 44-day reign as manager of Leeds United. The film was written by Peter Morgan and stars Michael Sheen (both were involved in Frost/Nixon and The Queen), along with Jim Broadbent, Colm Meaney and Timothy Spall. Clough attained legendary status with spells at Derby County and Nottingham Forest, winning the European Cup back to back in ’79 and ’80, the European Super Cup in ’79, the top flight championship in ’72 and ’79, and the League Cup four times over the span of his career. Clough retired from football after 18 years with Forest in 1993 and passed away in 2004.

Our event will be sponsored by Radeberger, Krusovice and DAB (others tbc). Thanks to the folks at those three fine companies for their support and to Shoshannah Cutler at Mammoth and of course SONY PICTURES CLASSICS for helping to organize what will be a very special occasion.

The Damned United opens in NY and LA on 10/9 and will expand to many additional cities shortly thereafter. Full coverage of the film and the event will appear soon, along with details about how a few of our readers will be invited to join us. Stay tuned!

This is “m to the iz-h phenomenal.” Good job fellas.

Oh man, I just watched the trailer again and got way too excited.

My question: how many viewers think the movie is about Manchester Utd, and not Leeds?

I like beer, and I also love lamp

  4. phil

    F**k lamp. I love beer.

@ LB, thanks for the NYC recs. I’ve got one in return. New place in Brooklyn: Draft Barn on 3rd Ave. The name sucks, but the guy that runs the place, Yuri, is awesomely dedicated to good beer. 300 beers in bottles, and select brews on tap. They are tapping a keg of Stone’s Arrogant Bastard this weekend.

  5. Lingering Bursitis

you’re welcome Phil! I need to try this Draft Barn place, despite its awful name.

@ LB: try the food there, too. If you’re into this kind of thing, the hog knuckle is great. They also have “beer croutons,” which are outf**kingstanding.

I’m a dyed-in-the-wool Chicagoan, but I loved every minute of NYC. Great food.

It might be in a posh locale but Blind Tiger my favorite NYC beer joint. Just ridiculously good beers on tap that you can’t find anywhere else. And the food is amazing.

derek rae is calling the falkirk-aberdeen game on setanta. makes the game seem so much more important than it really is.

with all that’s been said about the spl not competing in europe, this game is a lot better technically than any mls game I’ve watched

Hmmm, can I pull my s**t together on short notice and make it back to my hometown by Oct 8th? Possibly…

And I’m suprised NN hasn’t been giving us running commentary, but the Canaries up 1-0 at HT at MK Dons, though with two players subbed due to injury.

@whizlan….well the mls don’t really compete too well in Europe either

Or you can all come to my house and watch the DVDRip I scored a few weeks ago on my 42″ flat-screen. I may have a few cans of PBR left. Up to you…

    @jjf3

3 subbed through injury and 1-1 now.

  13. Keith

LB, I’d recommend Bar Great Harry in my neighborhood (Sackett and Smith, Brooklyn)- rotating Twenty-tap list plus a cask, 2 for $5 happy hour featuring the works of Butternuts Brewery, and a 200-bottle list. They also do brewery events where they feature the works of a local brewery at $4 a pint (next one is Rogue night, to be held Tuesday the 22nd)

    @jjf3

Losing 2-1 now 3 key players off from injury and a bulls**t penalty made it 2. Not happy. Monday sucks.

  15. jjf3

Was wondering if the penalty was legit or not…

  16. Norfolk Ned

Replay says no, Martin touched ball before man, but he clattered guy after pretty good. Ref waved it away and then the retarded linesman flagged and said pen. Wanker.

  17. spectator

And now Norwich is only two points above Exeter, who will hopefully get three points next weekend at home against Tranmere. The same Tranmere who have yet to score an away goal this season.

  18. Norfolk Ned

Not worried at all, we played very well today and 3 injuries ruined us. Had to changed shape and lost 2 of our most important players, CB and CM. The ref allowed them to get away with murder, didn’t know where his card was. Also the winner was a penno that the ref waved away and lino gave, Martin touched the ball, ref waved it and the retarded lino gave it with the players backs to him. and Holt was denied a blatant penno. League One officials, awful. Not worried at all. Disappointed yes but we will be fine.

Interview with Sheen Here, movie looks good!
