WWAS: What Will Arsene Say?

The penalty call against William Gallas today in the Arsenal-Standard Liege Champions League match appears to be highly dubious.  One might even say that it was a dive on the part of Milan Jovanovic.  Go ahead, take a look for yourself:

Now, let’s play a little game. How will Arsene respond to the call in the press conference this evening? We can compare our guesses to the actual words of Wenger and see how deep the irony gets.

Moonshine Mike has kindly provided his own guess to start us off.

The ability of the players to throw themselves down at the merest hint of the breeze only shows that the referee is unable to clearly handle the duties of monitoring play as well as discerning the correct course of actions. It is indefensible for us to play with such a disadvantage.

Give us your guess in the comments.

    “I did see the incident”

WOW he deliberatley leaves his leg behind Gallas and makes contact before falling. F**ker. Throw the book at him FIFA, then let him off.

Ryan, I came in here to say that. Meanie.

if there was contact, it was outside the box. but there wasn’t. Douchebag.

“It is clear that there was not any contact from the replay, but the referee could not see it because he was behind the play. It is incidents like this that require additional referees or video replay”

Wow. After the equalizer came off a clear handball by Song, Gooners will kvetch about a penno in a match they won anyway. Who knew you could get so much mileage of a dive for which the penalty was rescinded?

Yes, the Leige player dove. BFD. And Arsene will no doubt be highly indignant about it. Which will be funny.

And not the least bit ironic.

/ducks and covers for impending and irrelevant anti-Spurs rhetoric.

  7. “He is not nearly as good as Eduardo at drawing fouls in the box.”

I’m sorry, Phil, but I fail to see any kvetching here. The penalty was a s**t call and so was the equalizer. We’ve moved on but apparently you’re trying to start something. I shall now walk away.

Oh, come now, HL. Let’s not pretend this has nothing to do with the Eduardo situation. And it’s all good-natured on my part. No Wandering Bear-ness intended.

  10. Highbury Library

I don’t see how this has anything to do with Eduardo. The Standard player dived, a penno was given, and Gooners were understandably pissed.

  11. phil

    Alright, I’ll concede.

  12. Highbury Library

Sorry if my tone is harsh. I hate this team right now.

  13. phil

Not at all. I probably read too much into it, anyway.

I’d like to see the above conversation between HL and Phil acted out by Wenger as a schizophrenic dialogue. He should begin the dialogue by stating, “For your consideration . . . “

  15. ooooooooooooh – nice callback to Wandering Bear

Phil-I’ll also point out that this was posted by one of our Red Scouse writers, and was done so a good 20 minutes before the dubious second Arsenal goal.

@ umlaut: I recognize that now. As I said earlier, I readily concede the point. I read far too much into what was written. Mea culpa, mea culpa.
