Zhi What I Mean?

Slow news day, Zhi is BBC football's top story this morning.

Slow news day, Zhi is BBC football's top story this morning.

If you ever needed more proof to solidify the SPL’s overall standard as ‘Colaship’ at best then this is it. Celtic are getting all excited this morning over signing..Wait for it, wait for it… Zheng Zhi!

I know, what a capture! Wait, you haven’t heard of this Chinese midfield stud? A player whose signing will surely, finally show that Celtic are worthy of playing in the Premier League as per Bolton chief/clown Phil Gartside’s new plan.

Joking aside, Zheng Zhi has spent the last 3 years struggling with Charlton before deciding to leave the South London club in June, a month after their relegation to League 1. Since then, the demand for the Chinese skipper has been overwhelming; actually no it hasn’t, he has been without a club for at least 3 months.

Celtic ‘paraded’ Zhi at Celtic Park today and manager Tony Mowbray was full of praise for his new man.

“He’s just a good footballer and I’ve said from day one that I like good footballers.”- Tony Mowbray.

Well I am glad the Celtic boss cleared that up, there are so many managers in football who like bad footballers, right?

This signing merely lays some weight to the argument against the ridiculous Gartside plan that Celtic and Rangers really cannot compete in the Premier League with the players they have been buying over the last few years. The SPL needs to address it’s lack of competitive football instead of allowing Celtic and Rangers to pursue a move into English football.

This may seem like a complete rant at Scottish football, but it’s not, I really have no dislike for the SPL. I do however strongly believe that Celtic and Rangers belong in the SPL and not in the EPL as some sort of self-preserving scheme cooked up by Bolton’s unambitious, no resource, idea-free, cheap, scared of releagtion - chairman.

His plan is one that shafts every team in the country outside of the elite 20 in his new two tiered EPL 1 and 2. A plan that guarantee’s no relegation to teams like Bolton when they spend no money on signings and suck at the bottom of the league. A plan that kills the high standard that the Premiership is currently known for internationally and essentially destroys local football along with the hopes and dreams of supporters who believe their team can make the promised land one day.

Rant over. Happy Friday blog fiends.

  1. Celtic finishing third this season then?
What made Celtic a Fizzy Pop League side, for me, is the fact that they signed Mowbray after West Brom got relegated!

“We will forever follow the Rangers!”

yet more evidence to point to that Rangers and Celtic couldn’t compete in England. Well, not in the first tier and a half. Mid-table in the Championship, probably.

I agree. The rest of the SPL is bottom of cola, League 1 standard.

  4. Shouldn’t she be working on a followup to “Youth Novels”?
