The New Mexican B-Fense

SNLbees

After a shaky start to their WC 2010 Qualifying campaign (thanks SGE), Mexico punched their ticket to South Africa with a 4-1 win over El Salvador Saturday night. Yet, the El Tri’s home field triumph was augmented with a taste of the bizarre as the match was temporarily postponed when bees invaded the pitch.

Azteca Stadium has historically proved a daunting gauntlet for opposing teams (The USMNT has never won a match there), with its massive capacity of ravenous fans and their overflowing bags of urine. But, now that Javier Aguirre and his men have secured an unholy alliance with these bees, it may well now prove to be Nature’s Fortress. (I, for one, welcome our new Insect Overlords)

So, until your strikers are strapped with fire extinguishers (or are members of the Wu-Tang), don’t even think about trying to score at the Azteca!

(“Or what? You’ll release the dogs, or the bees, or the dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark they shoot bees at you?”)

Sadly for the dope test-failing Italian, I don’t think Fabio Cannavaro has played in Mexico recently.

One can’t help but wonder, do the bees prefer man or zonal marking?

    2 Simpsons references, but you don’t go with the easiest (and best) one, Bumblebee Man? Very disappointed.

    Come on, sven. Everyone knows the Bees employ U8 swarmball tactics.

    And to think, Mexico made it to the hexagonal only on goal difference. Probably should have lost to Canada in the penultimate game of that grouplet and been sitting home this whole time.

    I’ve heard the Azteca is nuthin’ to f**k with and you best protect ya neck when you play there.

    Apologies.

    @EF:

    Especially deadly is their striker, The One Man Army Ason.

    Didn’t the US draw at the Azteca earlier this decade? Can it be that it was all so simple then?
