YouTube Cretins

(a decidedly UNcretin-like video… but NSFW audio)

Ah, the joys of the Internet… This series of tubes that delivers such bountiful goodness on a daily basis is also capable of offering up an opposing cornucopia of utter excrement (sometimes, they’re even one in the same).

Football is quite the same, especially in the stands. From witty & inventive chants (this link starts with sound, so office drones beware) to the shameful acts that pour down onto the pitch, these mentalities are well reflected on the web. And, where else is all this more visually evident than YouTube?

You don’t have to click very far to find either something that makes you smile or frown, but it would appear there is at least one less frown-worthy YouTube video on the ‘net today.

It seems one YouTube user (predictably lame screenname alert!) had been posting videos mocking the loss of life at Hillsborough. But, no longer now that fans and the Liverpool ECHO teamed up to have the user banned.

While not particularly newsworthy that something’s been yanked from a website for inappropriateness, it does well to serve notice that it’s up to all of us, individually and collectively, not to stand for such rubbish — either on the internet and in the stands. Mocking, belittling, teasing — these are the things the Internet was truly made for. But, when it comes to racism, homophobia or downright lack of respect for human life, it’s up to all of us to take an active role in making the world a better place. Little by little, we can make a difference.

It’s also worth noting that sometimes the same sort offenses can come from one’s own camps, as sadly there still are pockets of Liverpool fans douchebags who mock the Munich Air Disaster.

Besides, by cleaning out the clutter of footy videos on YouTube, it makes it much easier for Dennis Wise to scout & sign players without ever leaving his office.

Certain EPLTalk writers think the Echo is fascist and hates Jews for doing this.
