When Is A Clearance NOT A Clearance?

When it’s a goal. Check out this bizarre freaky clearance from SMU’s Ryan Rosenbaum last Wednesday. The routine clearance, lazy long ball looks as if it’s heading nowhere but to the opposition keeper. Let’s all marvel at the amazing nothing ball as drops into space before hopping over the keeper and in for a 95 yarder. SMU upset Tulsa 3-2. The goal was Rosenbaum’s 1st ever. In an interview afterwards, he claimed he deliberately scored the goal after seeing Beckham’s 50 yard lob  at Wimbledon. No you are right, he didn’t. Is that AstroTurf? That’s a pretty nasty bounce for a waterlogged pitch no?

The tendency for a YouTube comments thread to devolve into an argument about the word “soccer” is near-breathtaking.

Well I have this pamphlet on great Jewish athletes.

And if you watch Arsenal’s 6-2 dismantling of Blackburn from earlier this season, at the Emirates, you’ll notice “soccer” on several of the advertisements around the pitch….
