Loans, MLS Style!

Loans?

We all know Major League Soccer does things just a bit different then the rest of the footballing world, but now they’re treading in new(ish… albeit kind of cool) territory.

After losing an assistant coach to another job opportunity, Steve Nicol and the New England Revolution have reached out to my local team, the Charleston Battery, for a solution. They’re loaning a coach. (wish my employer would ‘loan’ me elsewhere)

Mark Watson, who featured regularly for the Battery and Canadian National Team, has joined the MLS outfit for its playoff run, eh. Watson is not a total stranger to the club, as he played for the Revolution in four matches back in 1996.

Although a bit odd to see a coach get ‘loaned’, it’s certainly a great opportunity for Watson. Where it leads personally or whether we’ll see more of this type of agreement in the future remains to be seen.

All I know is it would take a seriously kick-ass chance like that for me to leave the Lowcountry, especially for New England with the mercury continuing to drop.
