I'd trade phonetics for the simplification of conjugating Romantic languages. Russian is a f**king nightmare, but rest assured, I will be able to ask "where is my suitcase" if I'm ever in Moscow.

Yeah, I had no idea either, but I guess that's just ignorance on my part. It's not like Western alphabets all use the exact same set of characters.

BTW, we should all go to Esperanto. Its alphabet is phonetic.

so from what i gathered, there is not one cyrillic alphabet but many, like 6 and up....

i thought they all used the same one but i read online just now that they have differences between them...

we had a lad at work who learned the cyrillic alphabet from a serbian coworker and its phonetic (every letter makes a sound so you have basically no need for spelling bees) so after two hours the guy could write out sentences the other was reading to him but he didnt understand a single thing he wrote.
having spent countless years trying to learn french vocabulary (not that english is any better), it sort of made me wish that more alphabets were phonetic.

damn, getting educated while reading a footie blog just seems wrong... can you throw in some half nekkid birds to compensate...

cheers
