Whoever Is Left at Hull Is Going to See More Pitch Time

Hull City has figured out that it has too many players, 15 too many to be precise (although, how they came up with that number would merit explanation unless everyone has the same weekly wage).

Staring at some balance sheet red, the Tigers have to find £16M to balance the books. Perhaps Phil Brown could just engineer a rainbow, then follow it to its end. That would surely solve the problem.

Unless of course Hull get relegated, in which case they would need an additional £8M and with it perhaps a second rainbow.

One of Brown’s strategies for success was a large squad, so he could rotate players and keep them fresh as the season wore on. It worked in the Colaship, but it’s become a liability in the Prem.

“We have too many players, it is as simple as that,” said club chairman Adam Pearson.

On the plus side, Pearson assures supporters that the club is “miles away” from selling players it wants to keep.

Uh, isn’t that just a semantic slight of hand? Aren’t players you sell by definition ones you don’t want to keep?

  1. when they are kilometers away we will know they are in trouble.

Not to be a dick, but I don’t see how they could get that much from player sales. They have one of the oldest and least talented line ups in England. Geovanni would I guess be the most expensive and surely his value isn’t much right?

I don’t think this is a “Let’s sell them and use the proceeds to cover some debt” move as much as it is a “Let’s cut some wage costs and stop digging ourselves farther into a hole” move.

Gotcha. And I meant “not to be a dick” to any Hull fans out there, though on second thought I don’t see that being an issue.
