Brazil Bans Football

No World Cup for You... in 12-16 Years
No World Cup for You... in 12-16 Years

In what can only be thought as the most deliberate attempt to piss off a populace, the city of Rio is banning football on its beaches.

This isn’t a joke. “Hundreds of police are being drafted in to enforce a ban on ball games by the edge of the sea as part of a concerted campaign to make the chaotic and often lawless city a more liveable place during the South American summer. The ban which begins on December 1 is aimed at stopping altinho, what Brazilians call “keepie uppie”.

Seems ridiculous but apparently the joga bonito ain’t such a beautiful thing for the beachgoers. They have begun complaining about being hit by errant balls and having to dodge the games to find space on the beaches.

What a whiny bunch of wussies. Don’t like getting hit with a football? Stay off theĀ  beach. Plenty of sunshine other places in Rio. The ban, however, does bode well for the rest of the world’s World Cup chances circa 2022.

    DIE YUPPIE SCUM!!!!!

Oh, sorry. I read PR’s last sentence and got a little carried away.

In all seriousness, as the resident of a rapidly gentrifying city, I’ve seen this shit before. And I say fuck those that foment it.

This is like people who complain about the noise when they move in next to racetracks and stadiums and pursue noise permits and usage restrictions. It’s not like this is a new occurrence!
