Quick Throw: The Women Have Infected The Men

A rash of soccer violence has broken out amongst female soccer teams and now looks to have spread to men’s college soccer. First it was Elizabeth Lambert with her Paul Schole-esque tackling and Peter Crouch hair pulling. Then it was Rhode Island high school girls going all out in a bench clearing brawl followed up with fan altercations after the game. Now, the scourge of the women’s game has spread and infected men’s college soccer in Wisconsin.

DuringĀ a first round game of the Horizon League soccer tournament between Valparaiso and Milwaukee an ugly brawl occurred. Handbags occurred, then actual punching, and then the fans stormed the field to get in on the action. If the violence of women soccer keeps infecting others at this rate, pretty soon there will be swine flu levels of hysteria in the soccer universe with plenty of finger wagging from the voyeurs.
