International Shenanigans On The Goggle Box.

Two blokes demonstrating how I'll be spending Saturday.
Two blokes demonstrating how I'll be spending Saturday.

Right, I actually like you lot so I have decided to save you all a lot of trouble.

This weekend brings the international slump meaning no super duper EPL matches but there IS plenty of footy to be had, with some pointless friendlies and some WC playoffs!!

I’ve done the browsing so you don’t have to, here’s whats on and when…

Saturday 14th November.

10am: Slovakia V  USA (friendly) on Fox Soccer Channel.

10.55: Russia V Slovenia (WCPO) on Setanta Sports.

12 noon: Brazil V England (Friendly) on Fox Soccer Channel.

1pm: Greece V Ukraine (WCPO) on Setanta Sports.

3.oopm: Ireland V France (WCPO) on Setanta XTRA.

3.25pm: Portugal V Bosnia (WCPO) on Setanta Sports.

8.00pm: Chicago Fire V Real Salt Lake (MLSPO) Fox Soccer Channel.

Now THATS a jam packed Saturday. If my wife is reading this, she will have just cancelled all of the plans she has inevitably made without consulting the mighty soccer oracle (me) . I shall be watching the USA while listening to Norwich at home to Tranmere, then England B team vs Brazil and finally I’ll keep my fingers crossed for the NY Kid as I watch his Frenchies try to make the Irish cry.

Can someone please make a joke connecting Irish tears to alcohol/potatoes/gingers/The Plantation?

I’m not witty enough to make such an obvious joke.

I want the following to win:

    1. France – they make the WC better by losing to African teams.

    2. Ukraine – because they are more talented than the Greeks, actually care about attacking, and could cause upsets in the knockout rounds next year.

    3. Bosnia – because Portugal.

    4. Russia – I will only allow two former Yugoslavian republics in my World Cup. Also, too many people (read: Alexi Lalas) will confuse Slovenia with Slovakia.

I am so salty that Screwstanta has all the play-off games. They’ll not take away my 2am New Zealand/Bahrain tilt though, oh no!

  • James T says:

EF: not bad, though some problems with your picks…

    1. France will choke
    2. Ukraine are relying on Suckchenko and Andrei Voronin for goals. Care to reconsider their attacking prowess?
    3. Would love to see this happen.
    4. Agree

  • Norfolk Ned says:

    @James T

They don’t have Direct TV in your neck of the woods?

  • James T says:

@Ned: um, it’s not that, it’s just I don’t like paying 15 dollars for a channel that doesn’t show that much good soccer

  • Norfolk Ned says:

Sure they do. Their picture is not in high def and their reg shows suck but they have 7 Prem games a week, thats what I pay my 15 smackers for.

  • Norfolk Ned says:

Actually 6. But still, add the colaship and 15 bucks aint bad. Bottle of wine, couple of beers, 3 pack of lightning mcqueen ‘cars’ cars.

  • Georger says:

Is the New Zealand game showing anywhere?

  • James T says:

Georger: The NZ game is on tonight/tomorrow morning live at 2am, FSC.

  • Georger says:

Outstanding! Definitely staying up for that.

  • James T says:

see, that’s the thing, Ned. As a new parent I need my 15 bucks for all the things you listed above! Don’t worry, I wait until the little fella is sound asleep before daring to do any of that!

  • Georger says:

I didn’t think Voronin was even in the squad for the playoff.

  • Norfolk Ned says:

Yeah, 15 bucks is a box of diapers, i hear ya.

  • Georger says:

Yep, Voronin is not in the squad. He asked to be left out so he could “fight for his place at Liverpool.”

First, I don’t think he realizes Liverpool don’t have any games during the break.

Two, he probably cost himself a shot at the WC roster if they make it right?

Three, isn’t he just adorable with that persistence?

  • James T says:

Georger: funny thing is, no-one’s paying attention to his gallantry.

  • Georger says:

Yeah I mean if anything this makes Ukraine better right?

  • Ryan says:

I’ll be rooting for Uruguay tomorrow night because Grant Wahl told me it would help the US get a seed. And because I’m a hopeless fool.

  • jjf3 says:

@Ryan: one of these days I’m going to be really drunk, and that avatar is going to start talking to me. And really, really evil things will happen. And my only defense will sound stupider than that “Twinkies” defense Harvey Milk’s killer used…

  • Ryan says:

Come on, jjf3. It’s interlull Bob, he goes away when the interlull does, I promise.
