Nothing will impress FIFA more than Hooters girls with scarves
We all know that FIFA is a denizen of corruption, favors and greased palms. Hell, they even have a rule allowing gifts from countries bidding for the World Cup. Many of the FIFA big wigs have been using their votes to get what they want, just see Qatar’s Brazil v England suck-fest last Saturday.
Well… Favors, winks, greased palms may all be for naught if the England 2018 Bid ‘England united, the World invited’, continues gaining support around the World like it has been.
So far fans from 140 countries have shown support through the England 2018 website, facebook and Twitter pages. ‘Back the bid’ scarves have also found their way to locations all over the world and into the hands of some very famous endorsers from David Beckham and other famous footballers to England’s F1 drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. I’m not sure this is such a good idea though, some England greats need to stay ‘out of the limelight’.
Africans supporting England's WC bid.
The aim is surely to make the bid so popular that no FIFA delegate would dare be seen to vote against it. After all, England is already prepared for the World Cup. The infrastructure is in place, the stadiums are fantastic and the police are experienced with managing football fans all over the country (except for at Upton Park).
FIFA have lost a lot of credibility over the years (if they had any to start with), handing world cups to South Africa, and Brazil, two crime laden host nations with old rickety stadiums and no money. In South Africa’s case, the preparations for 2010 have involved strikes and delays amid a lot of criticism over the money spent on the event in a country where there are an incredible amount of unemployed and homeless people. FIFA are under-fire as it is, cronyism and extremely looooong, unchallenged terms for the President have made football’s governing body very old fashioned and very unpopular. England are due 2018′s WC and FIFA will have to try really really hard to prove that we shouldn’t have it.
The decison is made in just 380 days and I don’t think that they will deny England a finals, besides, FIFA will make a lot of money in a country that is already..Ready!
One thing is for sure, England 2018 won’t feature strikes or vuvuzelas.

Note: “We” does not include me.
I’d love to be able to go to Villa Park for a group-stager in ’18. But I could see Sepp and Platini screwing Blighty out of the WC.
Doesn’t matter if people from Taiwan to Tangiers to Timbuktu write in for England. This stuff is decided by men with self-interest in their hearts, and their minds are made up.
I’m fine with England in 2018 as long as the US gets 2022. I am sick of hearing how the US doesn’t deserve it since “the US doesn’t love football”. We’re trying! Anyway, I do know FIFA love money, and a US World Cup will be a huge money-spinner. After SA and Brazil, you know FIFA will care more about money than anything else.
You don’t honestly think this matters one iota do you? Oh s**t a chick is in front of the coliseum with a scarf, that changes everything! Our stadiums piss on yours, sorry. If you get one, we better get one.
Or rather, our stadiums in 2018 and 2022 will. So much more money to be had with all the capacity benefits, and I think we know that’s a big factor.
Though I do think us both getting one is a very likely scenario, unless Russia gets one, then you’re f**ked.
Just to throw out a number.
The smallest stadium in the NFL is Solider Field in Chicago.
It would be the third largest soccer venue in England, second in the EPL.
$$$$$$$$$
Those are some rather Hooters-less Hooters girls, I must say.
Wait a minute that shirt says Charlotte! Looks like I’ve got a restaurant to burn down in the name of patriotism when I’m home next week. Son of a bitch!
Ned, question: just out of curiosity, would you rather have 18 or 22, if you had to pick?
Who here loves Conor Casey? Nobody? Tough s**t. Kenny Cooper done messed up his knee.

The KENNY injury means we’re definitely receiving a doubleshot of Casey and Ching in the 23 man next summer. Hurrah!
Goddammit. Can I skip next summer?
@Georger. Its not about “Bigger”. If that was the case, your mouth would be visable on google earth :)
We have 94 Professional football teams for 50 million people, compared to your 32 stadia for 300 million. They should be 300,000 capacity buildings or more. Not impressed at all. Chicago metro population? 9,000,000. Soldier field capacity? 65,000. In comparison. Population of Liverpool metro area? 1.100,000. Anfield capacity? 45,246.
Not impressed at all. Its actually pathetic really, how few people go to live sports.
Yeah it’s f**king pathetic how nobody has been able to top the attendance records set by 94, downright f**king shameful on America’s part right?
Still, no reason we both shouldn’t get one.
Throw out Japan/Korea, no way in hell should they get it so soon again.
Indonesia is a s**thole with no infrastructure, and their campaign is banking on being “green,” and unless they mean “money,” good luck with that.
Portugal has had a competition already this decade, they shouldn’t get one again. I think that would be a better campaign if it were just Spain.
Netherlands/Belgium have serious stadium issues, and Belgium might not even be a country by 2018. Plus mainland Europe getting three of six is a bit much.
Qatar is Qatar, indoors and no booze.
Australia and Russia are the two biggest threats I think. Russia has a s**tton of money to throw at them, they’re a rising star in the international and league competitions, and plus they’re soulless and mafiaed up, which fits right in with FIFA’s credibility. Australia should have gotten it instead of Brazil, and has stadiums from the Olympics still.
But really, England has the history and time advantage on their side, plus Wembley as a great final venue. And we have the success of 94 with the potential for an even bigger success because of the new stadiums opening up.
Now watch it be Indonesia and Qatar.
I think one goes to England, one goes to Russia/America. The Russian bid scares me to death, literally so now that Putin is backing it.
That would mean back to back UEFA hosts, they haven’t done that since the thirties.
I love the way England’s bahaving about this. Acting like it’s predestined worked so well for Hillary Clinton.
I’m sure FIFA could be “persuaded” that Russia really isn’t in Europe.
@Georger. Wembley is the greatest stadium in the World. Period. My jaw dropped when i entered (all 3 times since it opened 4 (?) years ago).
