Bout time to get things underway from Seattle, host of this year’s MLS Cup. For me, the final match (if not the BASEketball-esque playoff structure) is the one thing that American soccer has over the international game. I know Ned’s eyes will spit ink like a Giant squid upon reading that sentence, but what can I say, it’s fun to have it all on the line. Ninety minutes for a season. Should also be a great crowd too, given that Becks is in town– they came out in serious force to see him when Real Madrid visited a couple years back– along with Em-Veeeeee-Peeeeee Donovan. Anyone know who the Galaxy are playing?

Simmons is guaranteed to write about footy this week, since it’ll give him the opportunity to pretend to be a Spurs fan (or, as he calls them “the” Spurs), and to write up Landycakes’ miss.
(1) I, unlike some, can respect the fact that playing meant that much to Morales, that he cried when he had to come off b/c of his knee. Or b/c he knows he seriously hurt his knee. Either way. I also respect the fact that Kreis was over there comforting him. Men do, in fact, cry.
(2) I have deduced that Buddle’s role in the Galaxy is as a foil, to make Landycakes et al. look good. I can’t believe how much he sucks. Really, really, really.
(3) This game was not exactly a great advertisement for MLS. Maybe the MLS should spend more time focused on the quality of play than what its coaches and players have to say about the game.
(4) Why did I waste the 3 hours necessary to watch this game? Why, God, why?

No, I was saying the only difference between Beckham’s penalty and Kaboul’s was the keeper guessing right on Kaboul’s. There’s taking a cheeky penalty, and then there’s what Beckham did.
