The English Bid for WC2018 Should Probably Just Stop

Another high-ranking figure – vice-chairman for International Relations (and EPL Chairman) Sir Dave Richards – has quit the team that’s trying to keep England in the hunt for the World Cup in 2018. He joined seven months ago, and has already become disillusioned with the executive structure and a recent reshuffle by Lord Triesman. Rumour has it that David Gill is also about to jump ship, and none of this is helping the already disastrous campaign put forth by the English, one that involved Australian tote bags at a conference in London, some designer handbags, and the wily machinations of Jack Warner on the sidelines.

Maybe we can focus on 2022? Or, at the very least, save some face and pull out quietly.

In other news, it will never, ever stop raining in D.C. Kill me now.

(BTW, I just watched the 1966 WC final b/w England & W. Germany. There’s something strange (and, I confess, fascinating in that American-amusement-at-British-royalty way) about the playing of “God Save the Queen,” with the entire stadium singing along, whilst the Queen herself sits and watches.)

“save some face and pull out quietly.”

    Sounds like my saturday night…

As for DC, this rain isn’t supposed to stop until Saturday. Awesome.

Yeah the rain supposed to stop Saturday, but looks like it will be back all next week.
