Cerro Porteno: 99 Problems, But the Copa Sudamericana Ain’t One

Spare a thought for Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno. After winning the 2009 Apertura and securing a spot in the Copa Sudamericana, they’re struggling with the Clausura part – currently 7th of 12 and 12 points off the top – and now face a rather hefty fine after being knocked out of the Copa by Brazilian side Fluminense. 30,000 dollars, and a four-game ban from hosting games? u75 posted the video last Thursday, if anyone’s interested. The fine and ban is just for the shenanigans of the first leg, where a 1-0 home defeat prompted a flurry of projectile-throwing from the stands that forced the referee and linesmen to wait in the center circle for 20 minutes before safely leaving the field. Now, the South American Soccer Federation (CSF) has to figure out how to punish them for that sweet, sweet brawl last week.
