Quite frankly, it’s the matchday we don’t care too much for and, for most of us, the start of a holiday.  So apologies for the lack of a live blog as well as the general lack of preview or insight.  Enjoy the games, and we will see you in the comments.

Bayern Munich-Maccabi Haifa
Manchester United-Besiktas (Setanta)

Shoot, not good for Wolfsburg, now they have to beat United on matchday 6. It will probably be a half strength Manchester team though.

  2. Fox Sports North is showing a replay of yesterday’s Fiorentina-Lyon match. Off to find streams I guess.

  3. The regional FSNs have only been showing games on Tuesday. Not sure why, but that’s what is going on.

  4. Milan seem to be up for it today.

  5. Steve

damn Comcast is always screwed up. They always choose just the right time, too.

  6. Ryan

There’s two random EPL games going on right now as well, and Hull just went up 1-0 over Everton.

  7. Ryan-What now? Doesn’t the EPL respect our 5 day holiday weekend? Wednesday is a travel day dammit!

  8. Ryan

To be fair, it’s Hull-Everton and Blackburn-Fulham , no offense to those involved of course.

  9. APOEL up 1-0 on a woeful Atletico team.

  10. It was Stephen Hunt for Hull off of a Jozy rebound.

  11. Steve

we might actually get an entertaining game here.

  12. Ryan

    Two for Hull!

  13. Keith

Three! Three Hull Goals! Ah! Ah! Ah!

  14. Keith

    Bestikas! Go on you Turks!

Ooo. Pato nearly with a cheekychippy goal.

  16. What a day so far. Too bad more aren’t around here.

  17. Fulham strike right before the half. Nevland. 1-0 HT there.

Anyone get FM 10 yet? It’s a huge improvement over last year’s installment.

How can the Besiktas score be a “shock” thus far when the average age of United’s starting XI is probably under 20?

  20. JT: From BBC
“Kids? Gary Neville is 34, Nemanja Vidic is 28, Wes Brown is 30, Park is 28. If they’re kids then Cesc Fabregas is a toddler. Get real!”

Hull score a fourth. For Everton this time. 3-1

u75: how about the rest of the team besides those four? Welbeck, Macheda, Obertan, da Silva, Foster, Gibson….

  22. I guess we need NYKid in here to figure out which statistical measurement we are using for average. If it’s mean, There’s no way. You might take median (unlikely) and mode.

  23. EF: I don’t play those, but would like to know what constitutes a huge improvement.

So, the company that owns my company recently sent out a memo that said all of its offices are to be officially considered closed at 3:30 pm the day before major holidays. But they also gave no direction as to how that was to be observed, and I’ve been told nothing by my boss, whose already on vacation. Do I leave in 30 minutes? (note: our office is like a ghost town right now as it is, and I’m the lone representative of my group).

I’ll leave it up the wise counsel of the UF commentariat…

  25. I read that as 3.30 Eastern. Why are you still there? Seriously, go.

Man, Serie A has not been kind to Ronaldinho. First, the pasta has made him fat. Second, he’s lost his cutting edge. Whenever he gets the ball, there’s no running at defenders; it’s all pass-first, jog-second, or he looks to draw a cheap foul before lazily taking the restart. Bit depressing, really.

  27. that means get the f**k out of the office at 3:15.

  28. oh and Everton pulls another back 3-2 on Saha PK.

  29. I think Ronaldinho was fat in Spain…all that paella.

  30. James T

jjf3: in theory, you’re safe. I mean, no-one else is there, and no-one’s going to be calling in the next hour to make sure you still are. Ergo, in leaving now, who could snitch on you? GTFO

TFA: he was a little chubby, but still played with considerable pace and gusto. Plus rice is a simpler carbohydrate than regular pasta, meaning he could burn it off easier

  31. @JT: all the dead hookers he feasted upon?

  32. Anonsters

Looks like Marseille wants to try to win it in the last 5.

  33. Anonsters

    But it ain’t gonna happen.

  34. jjf3

Good advice, gentlemen! Got out shortly after I confirmed that Rovers lost – not in a hurry to watch that one, even with Deuce getting a brace…and my boss did not set me up by calling or emailing (something I thought might be a 15-20% chance…)

Listening to Bobby on Fox Soccer Report just now, he says Manchester United have already qualified for the knockout stages. Have they though? The way I read it, if Wolfsburg win 2-0 and CSKA also win 2-0, that gives 3 teams on 10 points, with United having the worst GD of the the three. Or is GD not the first CL tiebreaker?
