Berbatov's agent calls BS on the UK's papers.
The Sun and the Mirror are today reporting that Dimitar Berbatov paid 500,000 UKP to Bulgarian Mafia members NOT to kidnap his family. The Manchester United forward is reported to have fled the country on a plane arranged by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson 2 weeks ago.
Berbatov’s agent, Emil Danchev, denies the whole story in the Bulgarian press today…
“It is offensive for me to even comment on such yellow-press rumours. This disinformation first appeared in Bulgarian newspaper Show and now the English are copy-pasting it.”- Danchev.
Hmm, I am not sure that Danchev himself is a credible source, just ask Tottenham Hotspur!
The Mirror says that the Bulgarian Mafia phoned Berbatov’s mother and threatened to kidnap the stars wife and newborn baby, unless he handed over a large amount of money. Berbatov is said to have made a deal with the crooks before fleeing back to the UK with his family where security at their home has been tightened by the Manchester club.
Berbatov was kidnapped as an 18 year old by underworld boss Georgi Iliev who wanted the striker to join his team, Levski Kjustendil, instead of CSK Sofia where he started out.
I’m sure this isn’t the last we have heard on the matter but Manchester United have nothing to say at the moment, just that the alleged incident is “a security matter, we have no comment to make.”
