Will this chap still be smiling in four days?
Apparently the FIFA 2010 World Cup is set to be a massive failure…Unless a cow is sacrificed in every new stadium.
The plan to slaughter the livestock in a ritual that is believed to bless the tournament is even backed by the South African government, and is set to bring true “African culture’ to the World Cup preparations.
Government official, Sicelo Shiceka, is backing the plans proposed by South African group ‘The Makhonya Royal Trust’, lobbying FIFA to make sure the bloody blessings go ahead.
“We must have a cultural ceremony of some sort, where we are going to slaughter a beast.”- Zolani Mkiva of the Makhonya Royal Trust.
The NSPCA (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has intervened, yet they don’t oppose the public slaughter of Daisy and her mates but just want to ensure that the process offers a humane death to the animals involved.
The ceremony is called ‘Ukweshwama’ and involves a bunch of young dudes killing the cow with their bare hands, an act that the South African Animal rights folks have been trying to stop for some time. Sounds like Rocky in the meat locker but with live flesh doesn’t it?
There has been no word from FIFA over the ritual which is set to go ahead on December the 5th, but maybe they could tie in their approval of the act with the impending announcement of Thierry Henry’s punishment. How about FIFA dresses the French cheat in some horns, strap on udders and lets the South Africans get to work! Oh alright, I’m joking!
Africans apparently consider the sacrifice of a cow as the best way to bless the worlds most famous tournament, perhaps the inhabitants of North Carolina could offer a counter view of the rituals ‘results’. That’s where America’s biggest slaughterhouse can be found with thousands of cows killed daily… And yet the Carolina Panthers and Hurricanes play as if they have been blessed by the devil himself.

Obviously, the NC sacrifices are meant to benefit the Carolina basketball programs.
I remember reading a story about some basketball player who was in Turkey for a year and how they would sacrifice a goat in the arena before the game so I guess the south africans arent the only ass backwards idiots who do these things.
I have no qualms eating steak (medium well done) but these kinds of stories help perpetuate the myths that africans are a dumb, primitive, subhuman species still stuck in dark age customs and still havent reached the 20th century, never mind the 21st.
Dont get me wrong, the world is full of these backwards morons… some of them wont eat shellfish or bacon because some bogeyman in the sky told them not while others will cut a girls clit off to but africans are still seen as ‘savages’ that you see in the old Tarzan movies.
This wont do anything to stop these stereotypes.
PS: Make sure to put up a link to the video when it comes out!
I’m offended, that ^ this guy eats steak medium well. That’s just cruel. Anything about medium is a waste.
Also, there’s nothing quite like the smell of a rendering plant on a hot August days in the Carolinas. After sixteen years, I’ve learned to love the paint stripping stench.

That cow has nice teeth.
… and a real purty mouth.
You are confusing two different ceremonies in your article. The slaughtering of the cattle for the stadium is a routine slaughter routinely done with SPCA blessing and within SPCA guidelines.
Ukweshwama, the first fruits ceremony, is a traditional function involving certain traditional rituals including the killing of a bull with bare hands.
