UF Shot of the Day

Never forget!
Revenge!

You know, on second thought, I am totally not over this! One dish of revenge, coming up extra cold on June 13 12th…

Hopeful we make the 2nd round so you can post this picture ahead of our rematch with the Hessians:

  • Georger says:

“American coach Bob Bradley says memories of his country’s famous 1-0 victory over England in 1950 will come flooding back when the two nations meet at the World Cup finals. ”

  • Precious Roy says:

Georger… See my comment from Bahr in the ‘Out of Bounds’ post. There was basically zero coverage of the event, even in the immediate aftermath. I think in the doc about the NY Cosmos (the one with Hirshey in it), they use a headline from a newspaper clipping when talking about it. It’s a fake. It was pulled from some other production about the upset, but they had to fabricate a headline because there wasn’t one anywhere.

In fact, most people thought there wasn’t even any footage from that game. They actually showed what looked to be some film during the ESPN show and Bob Ley seemed even surprised that something existed.

There will be a lot of revisionism on this, but, when it happened, nobody here knew about it or even cared.

Also, as a side note, we still finished dead last in that group. We got pasted by Chile 5-1 or 5-2 after the England match.

  • Norfolk Ned says:

Revenge??? You got that when you voted George W Bush….Twice!

  • GetsHandsy says:

I’ve been listening to Team America’s theme song all afternoon

  • Steve says:

On the ESPN poll asking how far the USMNT will advance in the World Cup, 18% (18%!!) said the finals. I really hope we have a bunch of sarcastic assholes living in this country.

  • Goat says:

I, for one, know Walter Bahr best for siring Cleveland Browns kicker extrordinaire Matt Bahr.

  • The Likely Lad says:

@Ned no one who watches soccer voted for george w bush. and let’s hope the english team will be half as submissive on june 13th as tony blair was in 2003.

  • Nathaniel says:

I wish I could trash-talk for the USMNT, but it feels hollow every time I try to type something snarky/underhanded/bitchy.

Terry and Co. will hand our asses to us.

  • MCR says:

The Likely Lad: I can’t even begin to describe how stupid this is.

  • spectator says:

Little-known fact about 1950… Goal scorer Joe Gaetjens was Haitian-born and wasn’t even an American citizen! Take that Lou Dobbs.

@spectator – I can’t believe you didn’t even have the decency to link to our own content!

    You’re tearing this blog apart!

  • spectator says:

@NYK: That post is from 2008, I can barely remember what happened last week!

  • James T says:

Oi, Likely Lad… the USMNT are more than welcome to serve that extra cold revenge dish on the 13th, considering that the game is on the 12th.

  • Ryan says:

    Here’s the aforementioned 1950 highlights.

Earlier I mentioned watching “Game of their Lives” if you get a chance. I was talking about the 2002 film about North Korea, not the 2005 one about the USA, didn’t even realize that one existed.

  • phil says:

TLL, I’m confused. Does this mean France will loan us a few players to help us defeat England?

  • Anonsters says:

I just hope to hear some “Are you the Queen in disguise?” chants.

  • MCR says:

phil: Also, Germany will send over a coach. Klinsmann?

  • Ryan says:

Sadly, in keeping with the Revolution theme, it’s more likely the French send us Ray Ray.

  • Jewboy says:

I’m confused, because according to the draw and the dates of the games, England V US is June 12th, are you saying the game is not happening that day, or that on the 13th the US will feel your revenge, because I do not know about any of you, but I plan on seeing the US beat England on the 12th, you can have the 13th

  • Luke Rowe says:

England in the past have always had a superiority complex when it comes to U.S soccer, and it used to bite us on the ass.

We wont be allowed to make the mistake of taking the US team lightly. We all saw the Spain game.

    Bring it on.
