Sunday Bloody Sunday Bootroom

Before we get going on today’s matches, here is Rattle-and-Hum-era, pre-ironic, pretentious Bono with a special message, decrying the injustice that he and his Irish brethren continue to suffer at the hands of the powers that be…

“Are you hearing me, Sepp Blatter? We will not stand by this injustice!!!”

Right, where was I? Sunday’s fixtures! They’re after the hop, along with your comments. And yes, FSC really is showing a Hyundai Australian League match at 3:00 a.m. EST. Who knew?? But I’m guessing no one was awake for that.

Feel free to discuss today’s games, yesterday’s games, the weather, your Sunday errands, Bono, Sepp Blatter, or anything else that’s on your mind. Wipe your tears aaaaway!

(All times EST as usual, because we are elitist East Coast liberals)

FSC has been showing A-League games in the wee hours of the morning for most of this A-League season, btw.

Rupert will have his country represented no matter what!

  2. Anonsters

    ROLL TIDE!

  3. phil

Am I wrong to be nervous about the blue scouse away?

Or is this typical Spurs fan fickleness?

  4. Anonsters

Well, given how inconsistent we’ve been over the past 2-3 weeks…

  5. Anonsters

Well, this is promising: “1429: Lots of Everton fans worried about their growing injury list. No news on the team as yet, but I am hearing whispers that John Parrott will be partnering David Moyes in the centre of defence, with Kevin Sheedy coming into the midfield alongside Nicola from Girls Aloud.”

  6. James T

While we Scousers and the Gooners love to moan about our injury lists, Everton has it worse than just about everyone

  7. Anonsters

From The kid from Fuenlabrada on 606: “Pessimistic Liverpool fan here. After yesterday when Rafa said we had a ‘balanced midfield’ and ‘played well’, acting as if we didn’t need Aquliani or any other change to our wonderful form, I would not be shocked if we wind up 5th-7th. Cheering on Everton for a change.”

  8. Precious Roy

    What Scouser injury list?

    http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php

You mean you’re just moaning that your side’s fates are so tied to the health of one particular player?

  9. Precious Roy

And f**king Texas… I knew Nebraska would pay for not getting a TD when they had first and goal after the kick return. I hate the Horns. But the way Bama played, they are going to destroy UT. The Tide has a stiff D, but unlike Nebraska has actual offensive players and plays. Still, if I were a voter, I would so put TCU over Texas this morning.

  10. Steve

Morning all. Roll Tide, indeed. And that Huskers’ game. Damn. Sooo close. Texas is not good enough for the nat’l champ game.

I’m a little nervous about this Spurs game, too. Everton had that stinker a few weeks ago, and this might be the day they get their s**t back together. Spurs are about due for a stinker themselves (CC doesn’t count, right?).

  11. spectator

Arsene Wenger disagrees that Everton has had more injuries.

And Man U’s backline against Wolfsburg should look pretty fun
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/dec/06/manchester-united-wolfsburg-injury-crisis

  12. Anonsters

Raffaele Palladino just scored a hell of a goal for Genoa to put them back level 2-2 against Parma.

  13. Anonsters

Everton: Howard, Neill, Hibbert, Yobo, Baines, Pienaar, Rodwell, Fellaini, Bilyaletdinov, Cahill, Jo.

Subs: Nash, Saha, Yakubu, Coleman, Duffy, Agard, Baxter.

Tottenham: Gomes, Corluka, Bassong, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Huddlestone, Palacios, Kranjcar, Defoe, Crouch.

Subs: Alnwick, Hutton, Bale, Bentley, Jenas, Pavlyuchenko, Keane.

  14. Anonsters

Hopefully Palacios will wake the f**k up for this game. The past two he’s been s**t.

  15. Georger

Wow a win against Stoke and Arsenal fans are back to talking s**t about other teams not being deep. Shocking.

  16. Ryan

For City, Bridge and Richards have both been ruled out a couple weeks, not great but better than what those injuries looked like while lying on the field yesterday. If Gareth Barry fills in at left back and does well, that pretty much ends Bridge’s WC chances right?

  17. Anonsters

Wow. Parma player handballs in the box, and then grasps the side of his head as though the ball hit him in the head. Replays show he clearly moved his hand to whack the ball, never got near his head.

  18. Georger

Alexei Lalas doesn’t think that means he’s a cheater.

  19. Anonsters

Alexei Lalas should put himself in front of the cannon that Genoa fans keep setting off.

  20. Anonsters

Tough 2-2 draw for Genoa at home against Parma. They had a clearly legitimate goal called off for offsides, and they should have had a penalty kick for a handball in the box that wasn’t awarded.

  21. Anonsters

    COME ON YOU SPURS!

  22. Steve

We need to get someone on the ends of these crosses.

  23. phil

Crouch is such s**te with the ball at his feet.

  24. Anonsters

Dammit, that was a great chance.

  25. phil

Another wasted chance. We will come to rue both of those.

  26. James T

PR: a month ago, we had 10 players out with various injuries. But I forgot: only Arsenal can be injury-cursed AND also have the forum to moan about them.

  27. Anonsters

    Yobo off with a hammy.

  28. phil

Crouch is having a howler so far. Absolute s**te with every f**king touch.

  29. Anonsters

Well, it looks like we’re going to get opportunities in this match, at least. Just gotta do something with them.

  30. phil

    Now Crouch is offside. Gah.

  31. Georger

A month ago, injuries were part of the game, and Arsenal were deep enough to be second and still have options even with injuries.

  32. phil

the first yellow was soft, but Rodwell was lucky not pick up a second for dissent.

  33. phil

Everton are playing with fire with their backpasses.

  34. Anonsters

WTF was that from BAE? A 1-2 to play the Everton player on. Oy.

  35. phil

Crouch needs to come off. Terrible showing so far.

  36. phil

Awful, awful, awful from Crouch yet again.

  37. phil

Jo is killing Bassong so far.

  38. phil

Crouch has to come off at the half. Utter s**te today.

  39. Anonsters

SHIT. So close. We have really been lacking the cutting edge in the box in the past few games. The 9-1 is haunting us.

  40. phil

Rodwell is going to get sent off in this match.

  41. phil

    Three blown chances now.

  42. phil

    We look like s**t.

  43. phil

STAY ON YOUR DAMN FEET, CROUCH

  44. good lord, is Cahill a f**king t**t

  45. Anonsters

Well, someone’s going to sent off if it continues like this.

  46. phil

Fellaini is acting like a t**t.

  47. Fellaini is begging for a RC

  48. phil

    THAT’S A PENALTY!

  49. Anonsters

Jesus Christ, Daws, let’s not do that again.

  50. jjf3

@Georger: that was right after Nevland ended Anton’s day with an utterly pointless, unnecessary tackle from behind. Could have been a straight red…

  51. phil

Everton are getting away with murder.

  52. phil

Timmay save Everton’s bacon yet again.

  53. Georger

What the hell was that Howard?

  54. Anonsters

Ooo! Timmy spilled it, no one there to clean up.

  55. Anonsters

Well, with the exception of one or two defensive brainfarts, we’ve had the better chances, and we should be up in this game. So, that’s something.

  56. Anonsters

Of course, we also should have taken the lead in that Man U. game.

  57. phil

Crouch must, must, must come off. Dire effort from that idiot.

  58. Anonsters

    WOOHOO. Gareth Bale! :D

  59. wacman1389

    so easy

  60. Anonsters

Aaron Lennon has been off his head lately.

  61. I think Corluka grabbed Defoe’s package during the celebration

  62. Anonsters

    NYK: Wouldn’t you?

  63. Georger

    Peter Crouch f**king sucks.

  64. Nah, I think Gareth Bale is cuter.

  65. Anonsters

That has to be a corner.

  66. phil

    F**king Crouch.

  67. Anonsters

Georger: Are you Phil in disguise?

  68. phil

KEEP YOUR HEAD UP, CROUCH, YOU GANGLY GIT!

  69. Georger

    Shit, FOILED!

  70. phil

Good Lord, Tom, how about some control?

  71. Anonsters

    Hey, look! Bale was defending.

  72. phil

Bale is the king of the panicked clearance which gives away possession.

  73. phil

And there goes my feed. I blame Peter Crouch.

  74. that was quite the diving header from Daws

  75. Anonsters

Diving header in the bottom left corner on the corner kick.

  76. Anonsters

Was Yakubu just checking out his junk before coming on?

  77. @Anonsters – Wouldn’t you?

  78. Anonsters

Check out Yakubu’s junk? Nah, Bale is cuter.

  79. Georger

Did they just bleep out an s-bomb?

  80. Anonsters

What are the chances Pav gets a run out?

  81. Anonsters

Honestly. Gareth Bale is an ugly-ass dude.

  82. it’s the hair – he just looks goofy with that ‘do

  83. Crouchie is absolute s**te today

  84. Anonsters

And has been for a while now, but will Pavlyuchenko get any shot at all? Nooo.

  85. Saha is unbelievable this season

  86. Anonsters

    F**king Gareth Bale.

  87. phil

Gareth Bale is absolutely pants as a defender.

  88. Bale is indeed pants. And he had such promise too

  89. Anonsters

    NYK: He’s a midfielder, not a LB.

  90. phil

Peter Crouch is a f**king disgrace.

  91. yeah, I know his natural role is in midfield, but to a certain extent I still feel that middies should be able to handle both offensive and defensive duties. I mean, he doesn’t have to be Gael Clichy, but the entire “Bale at back” experiment has been a tragedy
