It’s hard to find a UK news source NOT reporting that Landon Donovan is near a 3-month Beckham-style loan move to Everton. The BBC would have the MLS MVP shipping off to Goodison after the New Year. Donovan supposedly wants the deal to help keep up his match fitness before South Africa.
Twitter fiends McNulty and Winter, of the Beebs and Daily Telegraph respectively, have taken different tacks in responding to the rumor. McNulty weighed in with the cheeky “Everton set to seal 3-month loan deal for LA Galaxy’s Landon Donovan to sign in Jan. Tim Howard & Donovan spying for US ahead of World Cup?” Such is English paranoia, from diving to penalties, etc., that I don’t think he’s entirely kidding. Winter on the other hand did not comment and will likely not attempt one until he’s made his daily quota of Micky Owen toe-sucking… Errr anyway, from a USMNT-suppawtah’s point-of-view, I’m liking the ambition, but concerned about the Lee Bowyers of the world trying to make their mark on Team Ooh Ess Ahh’s most important player.

Lee Bowyers is a heartless thug.
OPEN TAG, TLL
I fixed it, phil. Us Gooners always have to clean up after your lot.
Time to sh*t or get of the pot for Landon. Debates over the level he can play at will now be settled.
I like it. With all their injuries, they need him. If he doesn’t play, we’ll know the truth.
Carlisle on the 2nd of January in the FA Cup would be a nice debut.
Eeeeveryone’s an html hero now! I think I’m up there for best ‘per capita’ grammar on this blog, so schtick it..
Btw, I’m serious, some thugbag(?) like Bowyer is going to try to become an England hero by kicking Landy’s femur into the second deck.
Good, beat up on someone besides Theo and RvP.
I wonder if Everton will have the option to extend the loan to the end of the season if he does well. Hell, I hope we even get to that point.
If Donovan throws a Beckham like fit and refuses to come back; I think the Galaxy will have no choice but to extend it.
Also, there’s the increasing possibility that Donovan doesn’t have an MLS to come back to.
Oh right… the CBA. Wonder if the MLS learned anything from the NHL.
The NHL is doing pretty well for itself, so I’d say “no.”
They lost a season, and they lost fans. Franchises in the traditional areas of interest (the Northeast, Canada) are doing fine. The rest of the league much less so…
“I’m liking the ambition, but concerned about the Lee Bowyers of the world trying to make their mark on Team Ooh Ess Ahh’s most important player.”
I don’t understand this at all.
Michael Bradley plays in Germany!
Hockey is actually doing very well at the moment.
Donovan loan is great all around, he gets his chance to prove he can play at this level and gains experience playing against English opponents before SA.
NHL attendance is better than NBA attendance and their TV ratings are higher than they’ve ever been.
The MLS f**king sucks.
