What a brilliant demonstration of why I don’t read Fanhouse anymore. Both the British and American versions are mostly dreck.

The comments did start to border on hysteria, though.

Stupid British, stupid stupids, why won’t you at least admit that we are OK-ish? Why won’t you looooove uuuuuus?

Fuck that. Who cares whether British media/writers give the U.S. or U.S.-based players any respect?

I also detect a little bit of it in the constantly recurring theme, as depicted also in the Red Bulls stadium bit, of, “Well, we’re not competitive with the EPL today, but we will be one day!”

Who cares? La Liga isn’t competitive with the EPL, Serie A isn’t (shut up, haters), the Bundesliga isn’t. They just don’t compare like that, Champions League notwithstanding (after all, it’s the Champions League–i.e., it’s own thing, not a forum to show which league is “better.”) They all provide different products. Many people are sort of snooty about the Bundesliga, but look at their club ownership structures, their financing rules, the substantial fan-support that every club there enjoys. The Germans like it the way it is. And good on them.

In other words, we should seriously stop looking at the EPL as our standard, and just worry about creating, developing, and sustaining a league with decent quality that generates lasting support in this country, regardless of what the Brits, or anyone else, thinks of it.

Yakety Sax can make any video funny. Also, I look forward variations of “Landycakes is a Toffee” headlines.

    @ Anonsters. Amen. Completely agree.
