Aberdeen To Hand Out Shocking New Punishments.

An artists impression of Gary McDonald receiving a yellow card and the news he has to help out in the communuity.

An artists impression of Gary McDonald receiving a yellow card AND the news he has to shop for someone's gran.

Going forward Aberdeen players will no longer be hit in the pocket for ‘on the field’ disciplinary infractions, oh no, a hefty fine, hitting players where it hurts, just like every other club in the country, just won’t do. Instead Don’s players are to be punished in a horrible, shocking fashion, I cringe at the very mention of such awful, awful measures of penance. Manager Mark McGhee will now punish his players…With community service!

The brutality! That will teach them. Taking away a footballers wages is nothing when you can make him suffer the indignity of a visit to the local hospital to visit sick kids or make them help some back broken pensioners plant vegetables. Oh man, the harsh nature of Aberdeen’s new punishment will surely draw the attention of Amnesty International and cause outrage amongst the football world. The word ’Cruelty’ wouldn’t even come close to describe the pain and suffering that will greet Aberdeen’s players should they see red and get sent off at Pittodrie on  Saturday afternoon.

“It’s an hour for a yellow card, two hours for a red card and if you get a suspension it will be an hour, two for a second ban and so on. We are trying to make the punishment real as I feel that we need to do something.”Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee.

How about Aberdeen send their players into the community to help people without it being a deemed a punishment? What sick kid wants a visit from a footballer they know sees the act as a punishment? Of course McGhee’s men agree with their gaffer, they get to keep their wages, likely to be spent on lavish luxury items and instead do themselves a favor by switching off the X-BOX for an hour or two (see footballers tweets).

Aberdeen players have collected 29 yellows and 5 reds so far this season. Or seen another way, 13 sudoku hours with the elderly, 5 visits to local hospitals and 17 hours telling kids to lay off the smack.

words can’t describe the hilarity of this. . . you should’ve sent a poet.

Easily my favourite story of the year. McGhee’s team will become soft, as they’ll all be scared of picking up a caution and being forced to go cut grass at the local hospital. Absolutely unbelievable. Can they even do this?

I don’t see the problem with it. For most footballer’s, a wage hit of a few thousand pounds isn’t really much of a punishment, so the manager is trying something different.

Now I don’t agree that after one yellow card they should get fined, but after excessive yellows or reds, making them do something for the community isn’t a bad idea. It gets exposure for the team, and shows the players how easy of a gig they really have.

It’s kind of ridiculous, but at least it’s creative.

  4. i’m with charley, except that the time should be greater. like 5 hours for every yellow, 7 for two yellows in a match. 10 for a straight red. i also think it should be done in conjunction with a fine.

I think the distinction needs to be made between violent conduct-type cards and situation cards. Yellows should only be punished if they are done in a really stupid, pointless manner. E.g., petulantly kicking a ball away gets a punishment, but a professional foul to prevent a 3 v. 1 break gets nothing.

Straight reds for violent conduct should get the toughest possible punishment. That should get a harsh fine and a few days worth of community service.

Again, how can he enforce such a punishment? Wouldn’t the PFA have something to say?

They should do all this stuff anyway! As privileged footballers giving back to their community! It should not been seen as a punishment.

  8. Please note that I had nothing to do with this post (other than alerting the others that said story exists). I have no problem with getting Aberdeen’s cards under control. If this does it, great. If not, well, I blame the other fans for running Calderwood out of town.

@Ned That’s true that they should be doing it anyways, and some do, but a lot of them don’t. that’s the facts. I feel like the argument that they should be doing it anyways is like saying that I shouldn’t do my paper at the last minute because I should have already done it.

And maybe because they have to do it, they will start to like giving back to the community and do it without the punishment.

Just take away Dolly from these sheep shaggin’ basturds for a week. That’ll be punishment enough.
