Broke Ass Tuesday, Part the Third: Plymouth Argyle

Buy a scarf, I'm broke

I do sincerely hope you are enjoying our roundup of financial messes that all happened to come to light in one mid-week day. Does no one in England understand the idea of releasing your embarrassing news late in the afternoon on a Friday? Anyway, another club was dealt with by the back of the hand by the Football League. This time, the battered club is Plymouth Argyle of the Colaship.

The Pilgrms confirmed today that they have been embargoed from transfers because of unrepaid debt. The club has done their best to spin the news in a positive way, claiming the debts are old and previously unknown to the new ownership which took over in the summer.

Executive Director Keith Todd even goes so far to say that the problem will be cleared up by the end of the month allowing the club to enter the January window in the clear. Considering that Argyle sit second bottom at the moment, clearing off that debt should take top priority at the club.

Up yours, green scum!! Couldn’t happen to a more deserving team.

And previously unknown to the new ownership?

How is it possible, outside of fraud by the seller or utter f**king incompetence by the buyer, that the new owner doesn’t know about the debts the club had when s/he/it bought it?

Yeah, it’s like the opposite of finding a thousand bucks hidden in the tchotchke you bought at a garage sale.

  4. @Anonster-I would almost guarantee that there is a lie in there, but English libel laws are quite strict. You have to report what they say unless you have first hand knowledge otherwise.

First Amendment, ftw. (Although I should qualify that w/ Supreme Court First Amendment jurisprudence, ftl.)

  6. Poor Paul Mariner, going from one owner who pretends he has no money for his team (on the days he remembers he has one) to a team that actually has no money. Still, i wish him luck.

I used to play for a club that Mariner coached at. He was kind of a dick.
