The Galaxy’s second brightest star has just signed a four year extension with the Los Angeles club. Donovan will make significantly more than his current $900,000 annual salary. This means Donovan and his BFF Beckham could be together for at least two more years.
The deal will not affect his announced loan to Everton. However, one has to wonder whether this extension is being signed just to up any transfer cost if Donovan does happen to catch the eye of a European club.

Ives speculates that Donovan may have negotiated a reduced buyout clause that will make a post-WC transfer easier. Let’s hope that is the case. I hope MLS is flexible with any transfer. It doesn’t help our league to have the reputation of being unreasonable in valuations for players.
