The gift of taking your money

Arsene Wenger and Phil Brown got the same early Christmas gift yesterday, they were charged by the FA after a bout of ‘handbags’ broke out during last Saturday’s game between Arsenal and Hull in North London. The incident kicked off after Sami Nasri deliberately stepped on Richard Garcia’s foot. Pah, footballers..A woman stepped on my foot getting off the 1 train in NYC yesterday but I resisted the urge to chase her 30 yards before grabbing her around the neck.

Anyway, Steve Bennett was the referee in charge of the match and he watched the Nasri incident on tape after the game before deciding not to report the left winger for the toe tickling. However,  Nasri did receive a yellow card for his part in the melee.

The official charge handed down from Soho Square is for ‘failing to control the players’. The FA referred to the incident as a ‘mass confrontation’ and both teams have until the 13th of January to respond. The likely outcome will be a fine.

Arsenal and Hull certainly have no love for each other, the last time Hull visited the Emirates Hull manager Phil Brown accused Cesc Fabregas of spitting at his assistant Brian Horton. Fabregas missed last Saturday’s game through injury. He is expected to be out for several weeks.

Video of the rumpus after the jump.

Arsenal v Hull City

Shame on Richard Garcia. A small French man treads on his toes and he hits the dirt grabbing his ankle. Of course Stephen Hunt got involved.
