UF Quick Throw: Del Bosque Gets 2 More Years.

Spain coach Vincente del Bosque has signed an extension to his contract. The new terms will see the former Real Madrid gaffer stay as Spain’s manager until 2012. The extension is reward for guiding the Spanish to the World Cup in a campaign that saw Spain win all of their qualifying games on their way to the tournament next summer in South Africa.

“Del Bosque knew how to take our national team to the highest level. He inherited a brilliant side and he knew how to keep them there. We have qualified brilliantly for the World Cup in South Africa, we are leaders of the world rankings and we have won all the matches apart from that against the United States in the Confederations Cup in a match we didn’t give value to and in which we finished third.” Spanish Football Chief Angel Villar.

  1. “in a match we didn’t give value to” Unless they had won the thing then it would have had value.

/disappointed Villar couldn’t work the word “brilliant” in there a couple more times.

Yes, the match Spain didn’t give value to, but yet nearly every interview they give, they bring it up.

@Ryan: they have to keep reminding everyone just how much they didn’t, and still don’t, care about that match.

On a realted note, why would they consider it a mark in their favor to admit they basically threw a match? “See, we’re really an awesome team, but we just decided to not care for a match and lost. That’s how awesome we are.” Seems to me a truly great team wouldn’t have bothered to not care about we lowly Americans, and gone on to bash our red, white, and blue brains in.

And yes, I split infinitives. It’s a stupid grammatical rule.

/hopes there isn’t some FIFA-certified grammar cop who will begin writing overlong posts about how grammar cops are beyond criticism because no one here has ever grammar copped before.
