Silly Season: RVN to Liverpool?

Silly season time.

Silly season time.

The January silly season is just around the corner and there will be plenty of scurrilous, unverified and untrue rumors about transfers. This may be one of them. The Daily Mail is reporting that former Manchester United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy may be heading to Anfield on loan from Real Madrid.

The striker would be a good backup for the inevitable Fernando Torres injury, in giving the Reds a proven scorer in the league and a man motivated by the upcoming World Cup and hopes for finding a spot on the Dutch squad.

Cash strapped Liverpool is unwilling to pay a reported 3 million pound transfer fee for the striker and is also balking at paying RVN’s 100,000 pound per week wages. Basically, Liverpool wants RVN for free whereas Madrid wants money to help pay for its summer transfer spending spree. This certainly is not an indication that this deal is anywhere near fruition. But, it is always fun to speculate about a former Red Devil going to an arch rival.

I give this rumor one yellow card out of a Graham Poll. Intriguing and sensible, but unlikely.

  1. Georger

I want this so much. When we first signed Torres I kept telling people he looked like the next Horseface Killah, and I was right.

  2. So fans attic why isnt it possible for RVN to go 2 liverpool just coz he played 4 the mancs he isnt gonna go to liverpool why wont it happen coz its liverpool is it if he was linked with any other team you wouldn’t bother commenting on it but as liverpool has shown an interest you say its silly he will go to pool u just wait then liverpool will be back chasing chelski and the mancs! what this space!

  3. i say it’s silly because Liverpool want him for free. On loan and don’t pay his wages. Ridiculous. If the club’s stance changes then maybe it works, but I bet Real can get a better deal elsewhere. Perhaps Chelsea. They are in need of a striker in the short term.
