Now That’s A Wish List

Maicon: Coming to Manchester?

Maicon: Coming to Manchester?

Roberto Mancini has named his summer targets for Manchester City and boy oh boy is it a list! James T had a look at the possibilities last week but now the former Inter coach has named the players he is interested in.

The Italian coach is hoping that Liverpool fail to make the Champions League by finishing fourth, that’s because Steven Gerrard, Javier Mascherano and Fernando Torres top his list!

“If they put Steven Gerrard, Javier Mascherano and Fernando Torres on the market, City will be interested. We at City will do everything possible to prevent Liverpool from finishing fourth.”

As if Rafa wasn’t under enough pressure!

Speaking to francorossi.com Mancini also declared his interest in Zlatan ibrahimovic and Inter Milan right back Maicon:

“If City finish in the top four we will look for players of the highest level. I would like to have Maicon. With Ibra there’s always been a rapport of great loyalty. He’s world class. Which manager in the world wouldn’t like Ibrahimovic? City is the best club in the world for an ambitious manager.

Hmm, so how could Manchester City line up in 2010/11?

Given, Maicon, Lescott, Toure, Bridge, Barry, Gerrard, Ireland, Robinho, Tevez, Adebayor.

Not bad at all eh?

And this is why we need fuel-cell, solar and electric cars ASAP.

  2. Georger

Disappointed you ran this trash Ned.

  3. Norfolk Ned

@Georger. He has the cash and has stated that he wants your boys, pretty interesting news.

  4. Georger

Someone wanting those guys “if they put them on the market” is indeed interesting and not in the least obvious and fantastical news.

  5. Georger

Really the only one he could hope to touch would be Maicon.

Even if Liverpool were forced to sell someone (even though there has never been any indication to that point, in fact there is only the opposite) they wouldn’t do it within the league, that’s retarded. And as Rick Parry is no longer running the team, the realm of the retarded is not a foray in which they will be entering.

  6. Norfolk Ned

@Georger. he says he will stop you gaining 4th spot so they WILL be on the market.

  7. Georger

Yeah, except that won’t put them on the market. Maybe Mascherano will want to leave because he’s still pissed about his pay scale, but we wouldn’t sell him to City or any other EPL team.

People sincerely overestimate the value of just qualifying for the group stages. It’s how we paid for Kuyt. You don’t get the 150 million we would get from selling these three.

  8. Norfolk Ned

You can believe that if you wish, from the outside looking in ut will be very hard to keep Torres and Mascherano when you have no Champions League football and Hicks & Gillette are offered 100 million to fund that new stadium.

  9. Georger

That’s because you’re not paying attention, much like to the music scene when you were growing up.

  10. Georger

    There are two angles here

    1. The financial impact of not qualifying for the Champions League. Again, it’s overblown, and considering the fact that the new sponsorship deals they have signed for next season more than eclipse that amount lost just by looking at the jump from the current sponsorships, whatever.

    2. Players not getting Champions League soccer. For Gerrard this is a complete non-factor considering all he wants now is to win the league. Torres has repeatedly said he is staying at LEAST until the end of his contract, and has said so when they were out of even the top six. Mascherano is the only wild card and I think his will still be more financially motivated than anything but it’s hard to gauge what he wants anymore.

  11. Georger

And if I’m wrong, it won’t matter, because I’ll be hanging from a rope in my f**king closet!

  12. whizalen

I don’t get the hype about Maicon. To me, he’s just another Bobby Carlos who wants to attack attack attack and not be too bothered with the defending part of that whole “defender” position.

  13. Georger

Perfect fit for City then, no?

  14. sven

Jesus, get a hold of yourself…. Gerrard and Torres wouldn’t leave Liverpool for f**king City.

Even if they were put up for sale, they’d actually have to agree to go there… and why would they? Surely a litany of greener pastures would be begging for their presence?

“Pretty interesting news”? Um, no. Barely interesting wild speculation.

    @Whiz Agree

@Georger Checked it out and thought it was crap. Also last night found two other people who had not heard it either. One from Detroit, he remembered ‘stairway to heaven’ by the OJ’s and another dude from Ireland who had not heard the song. Both guys left Auto a nice voicemail. That song was more popular here than at home and especially with stoned hippies. I thought it was crap and am glad i’ve avoided it for 33 years.

@Svem Oh you Liverpool fans. From Mancini’s mouth! I want a cheeseburger for dinner, I think I’ll have one.

  16. Norfolk Ned

    @Sven

    Champions League football

    3 x the wages

Gerrard wouldn’t but the other two most certainly would.

  17. Georger

Good point. Torres took a wage cut to move to Liverpool, so surely a wage increase will make him move.

  18. Georger

F**k yeah The O’Jays rocked. They came to Charlotte a few years back but tickets were like sixty bucks.

  19. Georger

But yes I could see Mascherano being driven by money given who represents him, but still, they could get money from Barca, Real, maybe even some Eye-Ties, they wouldn’t sell within the league. This is like when Arsenal fans convinced themselves they had a shot at Alonso.

  20. bergkampesdios

At the end of the day we had as much a chance at Alonso as you did.

  21. Georger

No, because I was talking about two years ago when we didn’t sell him, that’s when he was linked with yall.

  22. Ryan

I’m more worried about the 8 million pounds for Younes fricking Kaboul we’re supposedly going to shell out tomorrow morning.

  23. James T

Yeah, this is just typical manager talk. Absolute horses**t. I’m remarkably unafraid of City’s money, and I’m sure the Yank owners are too. After all, as others have pointed out, why would we not only sell within the EPL, but why would we willingly give our best players to a team we’re directly competing with for a CL spot?
