Coyle To Bolton!

Will Coyle kiss Burnley goodbye?

Burnley have confirmed that their manager, Owen Coyle, is in talks to become the new manager of Bolton Wanderers.

Coyle played for Bolton for two seasons from 1993-95 scoring 12 goals in 54 appearances in a spell that made him popular with the fans.

Should Bolton appointment Coyle then the club will need to compensate Burnley with around 3 million pounds, that stipulation is detailed in the latest contract Coyle signed with the Lancashire club  just last summer. Coyle currently has Burnley 2 points above the EPL drop zone in 14th.

Meanwhile, former manager Gary Megson has bashed the club that sacked him by calling his dismissal by Bolton Chief Exec, Phil Gartside, ‘galling’. Megson says that he left the club in a better position than when he took over, claiming that Bolton ‘was a mess’ when he arrived.

“We had two games in hand and with two more points we would have been 14th. If we had won one of those two games we would have been 12th, the highest position the club would have reached for two or three years.”- Gary Megson

Ifs, buts and whens; The table doesn’t lie and Megson leaves Bolton 3rd from bottom of the Premier League with just one league win in their last 9 games.

Personally, I think jumping from Burnley to Bolton is a bad move that could easily backfire. Sit tight and make your move with Burnley.

  2. Norfolk Ned

@MM More money, bigger transfer budget and long term future, even if he has to go down to come back up.

  3. Ryan

Are the hookers better in Bolton?

  4. Norfolk Ned

@Ryan, I can confirm that the pies are.

  5. Keith

yeah, Ned, but he could end up at a better side than Bolton if he rides out the term with Burnley.

How does Bolton have a decent transfer budget? Every time I watch, the Reebok is half-empty. Is there a wealthy backer I don’t know about?

  7. Norfolk Ned

@Keith I hear you but is he really any good?

@Corky. They spent 8.2 mil on Elmander alone. Yeah their fans suck. 20,000 a game.

  8. Sucks for Megson. Ever since Bolton punched far, far above their weight under Fat Sam when they finished 8th one season, every Bolton fan has got all delusional about where they should be. They’re a frighteningly average side headed by Kevin Davies and Jussi Jaaskelianen. Even 12th would be flattering.

  9. @corky: The only thing I have noticed about matches at the Reebok is the amount of trash blowing about the pitch during the matches.

@epiblast. Spot on, there are 7/8 clubs in Cola and League One bigger than them. They really belong in the Cola. That’s why Gartside tried to lock them into the EPl with his crazy plan as he knows that eventually they will drop back where they belong.

  11. Keith

I guess you could argue that while he’s an exceptional man-manager, no one knows yet what Coyle can do in the window, since he hasn’t been given a transfer budget to speak of. And, Burnley’s away form is still awful.

  12. Norfolk Ned

@Keith. How many managers have brough teams up but are now mowing their lawns? Too many.

  13. Ryan

Speaking of Bolton, how has Juicy J never been snapped up by a bigger club?

  14. Norfolk Ned

    @Ryan. He’s old.

  15. whizalen

I wonder if this ends the Wilshire-to-Burnley loan talks. No way AW sends him to Bolton

  16. Ryan

@Ned True, but he’s been at Bolton since 1996. That’s kind of amazing.

  17. Sean

Seems like a lateral move for Coyle. I’ve read the Coyle is much sought after north of the border in Scotland.

  18. Norfolk Ned

@Ryan Like lost of keepers, he got better with age.

@Sean No Scottish side outside of the Glasgow Two could possibly be attractive.

  19. whizalen

@ Ned and Ryan — I always thought Van der Sar at Fulham was pretty strange. Clearly a top-tier goalkeeper…playing for Fulham. I understand the issue surrounding his departure from Juventus, but I thought he played at Fulham for a season or two longer than expected.

Wild Theory Time: Burnley are letting great Coyle go so easily (and maybe even paying him) because of his connection with a brothel scandal. Bolton, being the amoral nitwits that they are, care not for his sordid exploits, knowing full well that any future publicity given to the in incident would give people a reason to talk about Bolton Wanderers.

  21. Norfolk Ned

@JT, he’s getting to leave easily as his contract states that he can if Burnley receive 3 million quid.

    Thats alot of hookers!

  22. James T

right, so it’s one of those mutually beneficial things, then.

  23. Blue Is the Color

Damn, DID NOT realize the url was so long.

  24. >because of his connection with a brothel scandal.

Wait, there is another whorehouse loving EPL manager or is this still the Thai lovers story?
Seems like Burnley would be able to attract Colin Kazim-Richards if it was a Burnley based brothel (that imports women from elsewhere).

Because of his love of young teens, I was sure it was Arsene.
Coyle is a bit of a letdown to be honest.
