Barcelona just aren’t supposed to lose, ever. It’s just not allowed. The inescapable aura of victory that lingers around the Nou Camp was mildly ruptured last night as the Spanish/Champions League/Club World Cup champs were derailed in the 1st leg of their last 16 Copa Del Rey tie by the plucky rojiblancos of Sevilla.
The nerve! To the videotape! (I added new video as the old one was taken down)
Barcelona did trot out a weakened team, but take nothing from brave Sevilla. Despite all the Blaugrana’s trophies, it is Sevilla who are the kings of Spain this evening, thanks to goals from Diego Capel and ex-Real Madrid striker Alvaro Negredo (and to think he was linked with Hull City… ha!).
More troubling to me is the blatant money-laundering surrounding the Dmytro Chygrynskiy transfer to the Nou Camp. The defender and first Ukrainian to ever play for Barcelona, moved across from Shakhtar Donetsk for 25m and appears to be rather rubbish. Then again, if someone will pay 22-24m for Joleon Lescott, I suppose anything’s possible.
