Thanks and Yanks

Loyalty and integrity are not dead in football and Ned is a happy chap today. Paul Lambert this morning dismissed the talk of a move to Burnley and declared his love for the greatest football club on earth!

“If you turn down a Premier League club to stay in League One they may just give you a wee bit more credit than people think. I’m not going anywhere until maybe Norwich sack me..I love it here. There is a great rapport with people and this football club is a special place and the fans and the players, with what they’re doing, have been absolutely terrific so I’m not going anywhere.” – Paul Lambert

How could I doubt you sir? But, what’s interesting is that his words make it sound as if Burnley came sniffing only to be told by Lambo to get lost. But that’s not all, this wonderful news was added to today as my beloved Norwich signed their first American.. Yes that’s right, an American!

Zak Whitbread has signed  from Millwall on a 2 and a half year deal along with Stockport forward, Oli Johnson. Whitbread, 25, was born in Houston, Texas and started his career at Liverpool before joining Millwall. I will now expect a certain UF commenter from the same place as Zak to be ordering his Norwich ‘Whitbread’ shirt immediately!

As for today’s main news..Thank you for being awesome Lambo.

Let’s celebrate Mr. Lambert with a song..What a man…

Relax, mate. This could all be gamesmanship to get more cash. We see double-speak all the time in soccer. Guys saying they love their club one week and leaving the next.

  2. Norfolk Ned

    No chance.

  3. James T

Of course. No-one has ever left Norwich before, and certainly no-one’s ever said one thing and meant another. I don’t want you to get your hopes up just yet.

Wynn-Jones gave Gunn a big thumbs-up three days before firing him. Kolo Toure gushed in May about how much he loved Arsenal before signing for City in August. Roberto Martinez categorically stated how he’d never sell Lee Cattermole, only to let him go two weeks later. Rafa wouldn’t let Alonso go before selling him at twice the price. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Happens all the time. I’m happy for you, but this isn’t quite over yet just because a guy made a public statement. Just trying to maintain some realism.

Being pressured to sell a player, not having a clue whats going om at your club (Wynn-Jones)and playing hard ball with a price tag, not same as telling Norwich nation that you are notleaving for Burnley and reaffirming your love for the club. Don’t see it. If he’d been intersted he would keep quiet. Plus his words suggest he turned down offer of even discussing it.

Guys have gone back on their word for a lot less than Norwich before, is all I’m saying. Soundbites are worth the paper they’re printed on, especially in soccer.

good news on Whitbread! and Lambert!

I think Whitbread is a decent player, and being from Texas makes him that much better!

  7. Norfolk Ned

Well, maybe Bradley will check him out now.

he is on the fringe. if he gets playing time, and some more guys get hurt then he could make the WC squad.

Being 25, if he really starts playing well, I could see him being someone for 2014.

@NN: yeah, there might be a jersey purchase in my near future.

  10. Texster

No kit purchase from this Texan, but I hope my boys do you a favor and knock Ip..Ip..Ip…sh*t out of the FA cup next round. Would that be an acceptable substitute?

    @Aboslutely Texster!

Also a great Whitbread post coming tonight, a real hoot.

I’m hearing he got a shed load of money thrown in his direction to keep him at Carrow Road.

I’m a Norwich fan, so I’m not deliberately muddying the waters here… but things are rarely as clear cut as they seem.

If Norwich had not stumped up for him to stay he would now be the Claret’s new manager.
