Algeria Display Will Please Bradley and Capello

Bob Bradley and Fabio Capello will be happy today. World Cup group opponents Algeria were beaten 3-0 by Malawi in the African Nations Cup.

The first goal came when Essau Kanyenda ran free behind two sleeping Algerian defenders to win the ball which broke kindly for Russel Mwafulirwa to finish with power. The second came from a short corner and a cross that found the head of Elvis Kafoteka. Davi Banda made it 3 early in the second half when Algeria keeper, Faouzi Chaouchia failed to deal with a  free kick from the right and a game of pinball ensued before Banda arrived in the box to slam the ball home. The win is Malawi’s first EVER in this competition.

Highlights after the jump.

    OMFG -
    (taken from the beeb)

1936: Portsmouth winger John Utaka is apparently on £80,000 a week, Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is on a mere £60,000 – according to the report I read anyway. Astonishing, if true.

    Jesus, no wonder Portsmouth’s broke.

Which manager will be able to actually do something with that info? It ain’t the one with the steely gaze and tracksuit, that’s for sure.

@jjf3, yeah, Utaka has been in for some bad press to day, labelled as a bad signing. Thats shocking. Could have 5 Grant Holts! :)

  4. I heard yesterday on Radio 606 on the Beeb that West Ham’s Jack Collison is on a paltry £3,500 a week. Which itself is shocking considering he’s a first-team starter.

  5. Also: Elvis isn’t dead, he’s just playing for Malawi!

    And scoring, no less.

This might be the country’s first win in the ACN but they recently beat Egypt and made the last qualifying round for the World Cup.

  7. isn’t David Banda that kid that Madonna adopted?

  8. Norfolk Ned

@epiblast. That would be hard to believe, maybe before he signed his contract. There are Norwich players on 8-9 grand a week.

  9. I feel like that information should be published so the public know.
