Danger Danger, Ferguson!

'80s hair metal group Danger Danger does not approve of Sir Alex Ferguson's post-game comments

Sir Alex Ferguson has again tempted fate by railing against Mark Clattenburg after Man U’s tepid draw to Birmingham.  Luckily for Ferguson, here fate is the English FA and lo and behold they harrumphed that they have “noted” Fergie’s post-game comments, but that disciplinary actions are unlikely.

The incident in question was a second yellow card against Darren Fletcher. Having watched the match, I thought it was a harsh sending off, definitely a foul against Jerome but probably not the bookable “cynical” trip that Clattenburg claimed.  But the ref was on the pitch to see it happen, and Clattenburg had also given Fletcher a previous warning to behave himself.  That’s football for you… Sometimes the harsh call goes your way, sometimes it doesn’t.

Here were was [sorry... end of the day means me no type good] Ferguson’s response:

I’ve not seen a softer sending-off in a long time. It was absolutely ridiculous. I watched Mark Clattenburg when he was in charge of the Arsenal v Tottenham game. In that match you had to have somebody hit by an axe before there was a booking. But he sends a player off for that here. For a start he’s not that kind of player. He clips the boy [Cameron Jerome]. The boy actually stumbles. He didn’t even go down. I think it was a terribly soft sending-off, I really do.

In a world with a competent FA, maybe Ferguson gets another touchline ban for calling the game into disrepute.  If the FA were serious about protecting its refs, that is probably what he deserves.  However, the FA has shown that Fergie the Institution is the one who merits protection, and so the endless cycle shall continue.

It’s actually hard to blame Ferguson when he knows that he can always deflect attention away from his team and get away with it.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

If Fergie believes that, he really is a delusional old fool. Fletcher is another Scholes in the making.

I didn’t think whether the ref was right or not had any impact on whether the manager is allowed to trash talk them. Granted he’s obviously playing by a different set of rules than anyone, but I don’t see how the decision being harsh should matter.

They could have at least kicked in that “suspended ban.” Surely if he hasn’t done enough to merit another actual ban, they could at least humour the rest of us with activation of the suspended one.
