FA Cup Open Thread: Replay Wednesday (With Video)

Last FA Cup trophy for Newcastle… 1955

Welcome to today’s open thread. Just two games in the FA Cup today, the replays between Liverpool and Reading and Newcastle and Plymouth (that’s the green scum to Spectator).

Both games kick off at 2.45, lets get into some team news. From Anfield with new signing Maxi Rodriguez watching on…

Liverpool: Cavalieri, Agger-do, Insua, Carragher, Degen, Aqua-Man, Gerrard, Benayoun, Lucas, Torres, Kuyt. Subs:Gulacsi, Aurelio, Skrtel, Spearing, Babel, Pacheco, Ngog.

Reading: Federici, Mills, Ingimarsson, Bertrand, Cisse, Gunnarsson,McAnuff, Karacan, Sigurdson, Church, Rasiak. Subs:Hamer, Pearce, Tabb, Matejovsky, Kebe, Howard, Long.

“He can play in three positions – on the right, left or as a second striker – and is someone with a very positive mentality, which is what we are looking for. He knows Mascherano and Torres and he can provide a lift for some players.” – Rafa on Maxi Rodriguez who gets the Liverpool number 17 shirt.

Liverpool make 5 changes from the first game at the Madjeski stadium, Reading.  Meanwhile Chris Hughton has trumped Rafa by making 6 changes from Newcastle’s first encounter with Plymouth.

At St James Park…

Newcastle: Krul, Coluccini, Joes-Enrique, Taylor, Taylor, Nolan, Butt, Pancrate, Gutierrez,Lovenkrands, Carroll. Subs:Harper, Tozer, Guthrie, Ferguson, Ameobi, Ranger, Donaldon.

    Still bitter, Keith?

    /1-0 in 93rd minute

  11. Norfolk Ned

BBC:Correction: the Liverpool opener has now been credited as a Ryan Bertrand own goal.

  12. Keith

I’m not bitter, I just despise Rafa.

    /3-1 breeze at Anfield.

  13. Sean

Story of our season! Reading have been the better side, and yet we’re down 1-0 at the half.

Does anyone have a more reliable stream for this game?

  14. Norfolk Ned

    Never mind Sean, time yet!

  15. Highbury Library

    Lovenkrands with the hat trick.

  16. Norfolk Ned

  19. Ryan

  23. Death Cab for Woody

Was it a good call on the penalty?

    What happened?

  24. Keith

Per the Beeb: “Reading goal: If you want drama, you’ve come to the right place. The ball breaks somewhat fortunately for Shane Long in the Liverpool area and Yossi Benayoun kicks the ball of the Irishman’s ankle. It’s a stonewall penalty, and no-one in the world can complain about that. Gylfi Sigurdsson steps up and nonchalantly sends Diego Cavalieri the wrong way.”

  25. Sean

C’Mon UUUURRRRRRRRRZZZZZZZZZ!!!! 30 minutes, let’s steal this thing.

  26. Ryan

Come on Setanta, you’re dying. Call off the stream police.

  27. Sean

    GOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!!

    C’Mon URRRRRRZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!

  28. Death Cab for Woody

Yeah…it feels like a typical pool match this year…

  29. Sean

Hang on Royals! I’m so excited I’m shaking!

  30. Ryan

@Keith I know you hate Rafa, but wouldn’t you rather Liverpool have to do this again in a couple weeks?

  31. Keith

I think it’s a win-win. I could see this result holding and kicking off a slump in league form (especially with Torres and Gerrard both leaving the pitch with knocks), and I could also see a fixture glut stifling Liverpool.

  32. Sean

Two Minutes of added time. C’mon Reading!

  33. Sean

READING FC WIN!!!!!!!!!!! 2-1 at Anfield!

  34. Death Cab for Woody

Weird…Gerrard and Torres hurt again…instead of firing Rafa…fire the damn trainers…these two are hurt constantly…
