Prepare your farewells for Rafa Benitez: the owners have revealed he will undergo an end-of-season review. Considering that at least two high-profile managers have signaled their intent/desire to return to the EPL, if I were the Spaniard I’d be a touch concerned. As a die-hard fan, I’m delighted. To go from signing a long-term contract extension to sitting through a review doesn’t exactly bode well, and when Hicks mentioned the other day about the summer being a big transfer window, you can bet that money won’t be in Rafa’s hands to spend.
I shall now mentally prepare myself for Guus Hiddink at Anfield.

You could have a tag team of Gus and Jose (2 of the 4 horses, aye?) and it still won’t change the fact that you have a shell of a team and no real funding come the summer time.
Well neither of those guys will take the job unless there is new funding, so no, you couldn’t have a tag team of them and have no real funding.
Glad the optimists turned up. If Hicks is telling the truth about spending in the summer, you can bet your ass that the money wouldn’t be given to Rafa Benitez.
Plus, paying Rafa off will cost money, but would be far cheaper than letting him continue to be in charge during this decline. I mean, with our three best players out for weeks, we haven’t come close to reaching rock bottom yet.
Wouldn’t Mourinho only come in with new owners? Like Georger said, without fresh cash neither Hiddink or Jose would seriously contemplate such a move.
I’m still very much intrigued with the possibility both Torres and Gerrard are gone after this season – if ‘Pool don’t make the Big Cup. Would the transfer of those two fill the coffers enough to entice Guus et Jose? Or would not having TorresTorres and $tevie MBE be a deal breaker for the two? The politicking going on behind the scenes at Anfield is very interesting to me.
Who will blink first, really.
Getting rid of Rafa and signing a new couch would fall into the category of “spending big in the summer.”
And isn’t a post World Cup transfer window always big?
I didn’t mean that to be pessimistic, more to shoot down the first comment.
I actually AM optimistic about investment, Purslow seems to know what he’s doing and seeing as he’s the one in charge of finances and is saying all the right things (which the media ignores) I’m not too down about it.
Why should rafa worry? He’ll get paid either way.
