No Pride On Display, Just Grown Men Fighting

Nigel Clough's battle ready knee?

Pride Park was host to a local derby on Saturday and with local pride on the line, the two managers involved displayed something entirely different.

Derby beat local rivals Forest 1-0, ending a 19 game unbeaten run for promotion chasing Forest–but no one was talking about the Rob Hulse header that sent the natives wild after the final whistle had blown, but a brawl on the touchline.

During the fracas, Forest Gaffer Billy Davies says that he was kneed in the back of the legs by his counterpart, Derby manager, Nigel Clough.

The incident kicked-off when Chris Gunter and Jay McEveley clashed right in front of the benches and the dugouts cleared.  After the game, Davies refused to shake hands with Clough and the FA is now investigating the incident.

He came in and kneed me in the back of the leg. I said to him that I wouldn’t have minded him doing it to my face but to do it to my back was a bit cowardly and that’s why I never shook his hand at the end”. – Forest manager Billy Davies.

This local derby didn’t need any more spice as Davies was returning to the club he was fired from in 2007 . Both teams were desperate for the 3 points for very different reasons apart from the bragging rights; Forest are chasing hard to win the league and Derby to avoid the drop to League One.

The 3 points saw Derby acquire some breathing room, moving 8 points from the drop zone. At the other end of the Colaship table, Forest dropped 4 points behind leaders Newcastle.

Nigel Clough avoided the press after the game but is expected to deny using his knee on Davies. Video of the melee below. Do you see a rogue knee?
