Goals Are Like Buses For Danny Butterfield

Goal machine?

Crystal Palace full back Danny Butterfield has been at the South Laaaandon club for 7 years, playing over 252 games and scoring just 7 goals during that time. However, last night Butterfield pulled off the unimaginable, scoring 3 times in just 6 minutes and, to make it all the more satisfying, it was against Premiership opposition.

His side beat Wolves 3-1 to knock them out of the FA Cup on what turned out to be a disastrous night for EPL teams. Wigan lost 2-0 at home to League Two Notts County (I wonder if Sven took the team talk?), while in the EPL itself, Chelsea needed a Drogba free kick on his ACoN return to take a point from their game with Hull.

Anyway, back to Butterfield and his remarkable 6 minute hat-trick.

Goals after the jump.

Number 1: The unlikely hero poaches a header and celebrates like he’s scored the winning goal in a World Cup.

Number 2: Butterfield is a right-back by trade but has been forced to play further up on the wing lately due to injuries. After the first goal tonight, he joined his strikers at every opportunity as you can see from the next two goals.

Number 3: Butterfield has now given up his role out wide, and as seen here is enjoying life as a third forward. Another flick and Butterfield is on it with a nice left foot finish.

Danny’s goals see Palace into the next round of the competition and the win brings the club some much needed cash too. In case you’d forgotten, Palace were placed into administration last week, though last night’s win was worth over £400,000. Crystal Palace will meet Aston Villa in the next round.

Reminds me when I was in 3rd grade playing right back on a local weekend club team, and one time I scored pretty much on a fluke play. Spent the whole rest of the game poaching for goals. Well, at least until the coach benched me for not playing my position.
