Scotland Get A Driver

Certainly looks Scottish to me!

New Scotland manager Craig Levein says he will look at ‘anyone who wants to wear the Scotland jersey’. Hear that U75? Give old Craig a call.

Levein is looking to bring back some old faces to the Scotland squad ahead of European qualifiers, as well as some new ones.

One ‘new face’ will be English born, Andrew Driver. The lad has played for the England under 21 team but qualifies to play for Scotland under a new rule that allows those with 5 years of ‘schoolboy’ national appearances to be eligible.

Andy driver gave me the nod yesterday and he was dead keen. I said ‘Do you want to go away and think about it?’ He said ‘No, my mind is made up, I want to play for Scotland” – Scotland manager Craig Levein on Andrew (traitor—I kid!) Driver.

Driver previously stated that he wanted time to think about the Scotland offer but has now decided to become a jock. Also taking advantage of the new schoolboy rule is Somali born Islam Feruz, who has already made his first Scotland appearance.

Hearts winger, Driver was born in Oldham but moved to Scotland as a child, playing for Scotland at schoolboy level and even scoring against England in 2002. In 2009, England under 21 manager, Stuart Pearce, called Driver up to the England team for the u21 European Championships where the player made one appearance in the 1-1 draw with Germany.

Driver’s 5 year Hearts deal is up next year and there were rumors of Burnley, Coventry and Steve McClaren’s FC Twente making bids to sign him recently. He could make his Scotland debut against the Czech Republic on March the 3rd.

I wonder if they’ll give Driver the same amount of s**t they give Aiden Mcgeady? Probably not…

  2. I hear you Ned, but I don’t think that Scotland want a short, fat keeper. I mean, they already had Andy Goram.

@u75 Maybe you can be the kit man.

  4. [...] up the draw, as does [The Scottish football blog] » In preparation, Scotland get their man [Unprofessional Foul] » … but Barry Ferguson is not the only one having second thoughts about playing for Scotland [...]

  5. I’m getting my boots on now.

Ponies FC from the Ewell and Epsom East league will have an international among them.
