Ashley Cole will be out for three months with a fractured ankle, throwing his World Cup chances into doubt.
The injury happened last night as Landon Donovan tackled Cole during Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Everton. Nice work Landon, only 10 more to crock before June 12.
If Cole fails to gain fitness ahead of South Africa, Wayne Bridge will be expected to take his place. Uh oh!

God or fate has a sense of humor, it seems…
Ashley Cole on Chelsea and Ashley Cole on England are two of my most hated people
Wayne Bridge and Rio Ferdinand on one side, a slowing Terry and who knows which Glen Johnson shows up this summer …. starting to like Slovenia’s chances of winning this group more and more and more.
hahahahahahaha
God doth have sense of humor

Agreed.
Remember when the draw came out for WC2010 and we said ‘What can go wrong?’
Sex scandal, broken bones… what next? Locusts or frogs?
I’m going to go ahead and say locusts, but just in case rooney needs to be in a plastic bubble until the cup starts
Donovan is a legend.
No s**t, nick. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Then just go to Everton.
Everton play Man U next, right? Go for Rooney now, Landy!
Frogs are in Group A. Locusts FTW!
Landycakes really wants to end the use of that nickname once and for all.
Has anyone found video of the tackle? I believe Donovan was booked for it but I don’t know how bad it was.
Soccernet actually has a really good picture of it on the front page now, looks like a true fifty-fifty challenge.
Here’s the picture I was talking about

Nothing was called on that play.
Donovan was booked for tripping Zhirkov (and that wasn’t even that bad). The ball with Cole was barely visible on the screen, and at the time the announcers didn’t even realize he was hurt because Ivanovic also was hurt.
When they showed the replay, both announcers said it was a clean 50-50 ball and that “there was no malice in it.”
Thanks for the info.
