Good afternoon blog fiends, lots happening this afternoon, so lets get to it. Just in, it didn’t take Patrick Vieira long to get back to his old ways–He’s been charged with violent conduct by the FA for sticking his boot in Glenn Wheelan’s knackers last night. Pleasant.

And a Fabianski howler at Porto.
Sol Campbell equalizes..
One for the NY Kid. Arsenal wannabe Marouane Chamakh scores a super header in the French Cup this afternoon against Lorient. Bordeux currently 2-1 up.
It’s HT at Wigan and what a surprise…Its 0-0.
Uh oh, Fabianski AGAIN. What was he doing? YOU..CAN..NOT..PICK..UP..A..BACK..PASS…MATE! Porto 2-1 up from an indirect free-kick in the box. Actually the fact the ref allowed it taken that quick was nuts, Arsenal asleep and Fabianski running back towards his goal!

3 mins of stoppage time
Would it be overly racist to say Porto’s keeper looks like a grown up Starvin’ Marvin?
Save the Pixie he hasn’t bought anyone in 2 years that is worth a damn. This is his team and it sucks miserably and has for the last 3 years.
That’s a corner…..unless you’re Helen Keller….then by all means, it’s a GK
Klose just had an uncontested shot from about eight yards out and shanked it ten feet over the bar. Yeah Bayern should have bought Ruud.
Correction: Vermaelen was a good buy. That’s certainly not enough though.
@Wac: Agreed. Wenger managed this game well, although I would’ve liked to have seen Eboue on a little sooner. His aggression and long runs can change a game.
@Georger, No, I see the resemblance lol
Pull the trigger Abou!
Annnnnnnnnd Klose just scored from, I s**t you not, three yards off side and they let it stand. WOW this is crooked.
FFS Diaby SHOOOT!
well, looks like we’ll need a 1-0 win at the Emirates
I’m gonna kill myself
Go f**k yourselves Porto, ref and Fabianski.
Wow Soccernet……way to be c**ts……the front page is killing us
I’ll take this, especially with 5 starters out. We have the away goal, and aside from that muck up in the 51st minute – which is on the ref – I can’t complain too much about our performance. Porto had every opportunity to make it 3-4, and Fabianski made some good stops.
Woah. Blacked out there for a second.
Can someone a little more familiar with English footie coverage, both on TV and the papers, answer this question: Do the English press not like Arsenal or Wenger because they are foreign? Or is it something else? The coverage seems biased, always.
It’s because he’s not SAF and they’re not United.
Same with the two English c**ts on FSC.
Yeah, I’m not seeing anything about how the ref let them take that kick almost unfairly soon
I’m going to bitch about the ref. And it’s not even the deliciously ironic play in the box. He basically let Porto foul as hard and as often as they wanted. If every Porto challenge on Arsenal as bad as the one Diaby was carded for on Porto had been called, Porto would have been down to about 8 men.
Show a card early. Get control of the match. And send someone off it they f**king deserve.
I dunno… what is Soccernet saying on the front page that isn’t true? It may hurt but it is factually accurate.
“Cesc Fabregas on whether Porto’s goal should have stood: “I don’t know. I have no idea. Maybe as a player I would have done the same, take a quick free-kick. To be honest, I don’t know. I was like 30 metres away.”"
I don’t like Cesc, but that’s a classy response, very honest.
This
“Worst goalkeeping errors – Fabianski joins the greats”
Is a bit dickish immediately after the game ended.
Klose’s “goal”
@hock Yeah, my feelings are just hurt….I just want the ref to not block my player off the ball after giving them an indefensible free kick
I gotta go with Hockalees – harsh, but fair.
I gotta go with wac: I can deal with the speed and ease with which he gifted the kick, but don’t block the one defender who is in a position to make a play.
@Georger, I read the Gamecast for the Bayern farce…..though I laughed at Chelsea when Ovrebo jobbed them last year, this isn’t even funny…..it’s horrendous
still shot of Klose being “onside”
To clarify – that free kick was abject douchery by the ref. The first goal was gifted. The soccernet “Worst Goalkeeping Errors” article references the first bundled cross.
NUFC 4 – 1 Coventry.
Wayne Routledge
Peter Lovenkrands (pen)
Andy Carroll
Ryan Taylor
Ryan Taylor!?!?!
@wacman:
I totally agree with you… the ref was atrocious (see my comments at 15:56 and 16:09) but the over arching story line is the horrendous gifts from Fabianski that gave this game away. To me the article about Fabs joining the worst of all time SOUNDS like an Arsenal fan’s view of this, no?
The “commentary” from the BBC site, and the GameCast had a certain anti-Arsenal bias, but I am used to that. The knives will be out in the press tomorrow morning, with the swirling Cesc to Barca rumors, Wenger backing Fabs before the game, and then the horrible play by same keeper.
Why can’t Arsenal get a good American keeper?
Ovrebo is done right? Right?
In retrospect….now that I’ve calmed down a bit, it was somewhat Garo Yepremian-esque
What the hell kind of point were UEFA trying to make? I just realized from your comments that Hansson was the other ref today. Why pick probably the two most infamous of European refs from the past couple of years, and put them on the same day? It’s an extremely arrogant move in my mind.
Re: the Klose goal
Isn’t he onside by virtue of the ball being behind the last defender as it is played? Watching the video, I thought he was onside because of that reason.
I am 99.9% sure that to be onside you must be behind the 2nd last defender, or if you are in front of them, be behind the ball.
Klose is still a good 2 yards in front of the ball, and so is way offside.
Wikipedia backs you up. Never knew that before. Honestly thought that a “forward pass” in that situation was legal. I can think of a couple of instances while playing youth soccer where I benefited from the rule not being enforced correctly.
Introducing myself. Have a Sign Company in Dallas. Been lurking around watching you guys. You are awesome. Hope to fit in. Trying to learn all I can. Thanks in advance for the help I’m sure I’ll need.
